For those not aware of it yet, MarkG has posted a review of his betatest game.
Interesting to know for a SMAC mod, map labeling is in according to him. Both for SP and MP.

I read some another review on civfanatics.
Through the most part of it I had a feeling like what was considered there that great novelty, I already saw it in SMACX.
We really, and I mean REALLY should hear voice of a SMACX player about civ4 betatesting...

Or, to look at it slightly differently, why cIV is the SMAC(X) Mod beta!

Finally something with decent information.
Interesting solutions and gameplay changes.
Some things are quite "away" from concepts in SMACX

I'm curious about how the C4:AC modders plan to handle diplomacy. For example, when you offer to gift a tech to an AI, they will ask for a specific tech. You may then give them that tech or make a counteroffer of another one. How will you determine these options, keeping in mind that the plan is approximate the current SMAC model as closely as possible?
Many other diplomacy options contain factors that aren't, AFAIK, documented. Examples: frequency of contact with human player, council voting, declaring vendetta, etc.
Since it probably won't be possible to duplicate exactly all these options, my own opinion is that the main goal should be to identify all these issues. Someone will then have to decide how to handle each one."The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote."

We will probably need some extensive testing to determine the exact workings of a SMAC AI mind, but some things are already pretty much known to us - for example, the tech values is one of the top factors in deciding which tech to ask for, the other top factor is the social/technological priority (conquer, explore, discover, build) which is more a guiding vector of the former.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Just as a general issue, some non-members have joined the C4:AC group. I was going to prod them to see if they were interested in helping. Otherwise, its just advertisement which is fine as well.
