  • [C4:AC] Questions and comments

Welcome to the recently re-styled AC-Creation forum, now the home of the Cvilisation4: Alpha Centauri mod effort. In the interests of creating a good working environment for the mod, we'd like to keep this forum tidy. We'd appreciate it if you'd post in this thread wherever appropriate, rather than create a new thread of your own.

If you have questions then be sure to check our stickied threads at the top. They're not all written up properly at this early stage, but may have the answers you're looking for.

    Many thanks,
    Senethro.

Who will be the point person for interactions with Firaxis?

We need to get clearance to make use of the original source material. I am referring to text and sound files, since we will be making new graphics for everything (or most things anyway). I.e. all the text that goes with the advances and the sound files for all the base facilities.

We could also take a shortcut by getting approval to use the original secret project movies, assuming that the cIV engine uses the same file format for the movies. I doubt the Firaxis legal team (or Take2 for that matter) would go for this, but it is worth a shot.

We don't need to assume that, most video formats can be converted into other, but the legal issue should be really taken care of.

That is a very good point. I suggest we ask DanQ to sort it out for us. Agreed?

one thing that should be considered

there be many people interested in helping in this project who don't know its going on because they dont play the game 7 years later. Therefore, it might be good to post links to this forum on graphic and programming forums.

I think there are starting to be too many C4AC topped threads etc. Keep in mind everyone this is also (and mainly) the forum for SMAC-Creation stuff.

Good point, but right now we have 3 which is not too much IMO if it doesn't go bigger..

Compared to other forums, there aren't many topped threads at all. I topped the thread so that questions from others don't end up in various threads all over the forum.

When Civ 4 hits the stores, Apolyton Civilization Site will experience a huge increase in new registrations, and some newcomers will follow the news to this forum. If they don't see this thread, they might start to ask questions all over the forum, including the ordinary SMAC Creation threads. This act prevents that.

There are three C4AC topped threads, and frankly said, I am not sure what is the purpose of the Official thread now. If nothing happens in it in near future, I'll detop it. There may be more C4:AC topped threads in a somewhat distant future, related to coding. But we can get around.

Oh, and I made a subtle change to the thread title.
