[C4:AC] Official C4-->SMAC Thread - Prelude to a Mod
Seems that my prediction from my first post here is true - we get the AC-Creation forum then.
I propose that henceforth all related threads are created with "CIV4:SMAC" prefix. Agreed?

You may have not noticed, but binTravkin isn't active during weekends. He'll be happy when he logs to Apolyton tommorow morning.

As you wish. [salute] But I think settler horde will have some trouble finding us in AC-Creation/CIV4:AC forum.

Wow. I'm amazed at how quickly an orginization structure has come into place.
I have no programming abilities and limited computer graphics abilities. Those are not areas that I can adequatly contribute.
I can offer my services in a couple of ways though. Firstly, I propose a seperate manual to the Datalinks. I can be its editor, and likely its main author. In addition to gameplay material it will need Differences from Civ 4, Differences from SMAC, and Installation sections.
That, however, won't become a pressing need until later in the game, until we start having working versions up and running I suspect.
There are going to be lots of suggestion for Civ4:AC2, that go beyond the project scope of a direct translation. These will come early and often, and I can open and maintain the threads for these. This will help to keep such suggestions out of useful discussion areas, and will allow me to archive them until such time that they are useful.
There are going to be some areas that don't translate nicely from Civ4 to Civ4:AC. I hope these are few and far between, inconsequential, or both. But each time this happens we're going to need a solution, and that's another area that suggestions will be able to contribue. My having them archived will help the real workers by not forcing them to dredge through dozens of horrible posts.
So, when the time comes, I can handle the manual. In the near future, probably when Civ 4 is actually out, I can corral the non-useful discussions and turn them into eventually useful information caches. I also open myself to suggesteions of other such organizational duties that I might be able to perform. I know there will be many, and in the cases where project depeartment heads and other "officials" can't or shouldn't deal with them I may be able to step in.
5) Getting a catchphrase per Darsnan's suggestion.
An exception from Gamer's Abbreviation Dictionary:
C4AC: Pronounced as "C for AC" or [si:fo:eisi:], a reference to a Sid Meiers Civilisation 4 mod dedicated to an older Firaxis game Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri (and Alien Crossfire Expansion Pack)

Now to the organsiational issues. I scanned Illu's list on the issue and as theoretical basis, it fits.
We have to have a practical system though, thus I am proposing 2 types of threads for each ModGroup*:
1.Tasklist - no spamming, the offical leader makes one post where he maintains all tasks for a current version of mod (for the next he makes new post in the same thread).
'Maintaining' includes:
a)identification - giving an unique ID to the task and binding to a cathegory
b)request - putting the task in the list and notifying the appropriate ModGroup of it (more of this later).
Task request contains, the description of the task and possible solutions if there are such.
c)execution status monitoring, where stages would be different for each ModGroup, but e.g. programming would have 'design, implementation, alpha testing/debug, given away to Beta testers(here it goes to Feedback/Beta testing ModGroup), beta debug, complete' (again, FeedBack M(od)G(roup) has it).
Also such properties as prority should be bound to each task.
Tasks should be presented in coloured mode where priorities should be expressed as a tone of red, and completion should render task grey (default color for 'inactive').
The organsing person should also keep a legend for easy identification.
2.Task discussion thread - separate for each task, a group of similar tasks or a cathegory (under discussion or as fit to situation). A matrix for a thread naming should be:
[C4:AC][MG identifier][task, task group or cathegory identifier or]
like
[C4:AC][P][0167]
where
P - programming
0167 is a 4 digit unique ID which consists of:
'01' - cathegory ID
'6' - task group ID
'7' - task ID
As it is, it sounds pretty complex, but I think you'd get used to such system of referencing quickly as there will be a topped central thread for description and ID and the discussion/implementation threads leading to organised spamming posting here.
For example a programming task would first go to the tasklist, which would be visited by programmers. Either the programmer who's able to do it or the main programmer of this project(if there's been time with no response) will then start the development thread and discuss how it should be implemented and any issues during development.
If programmer/designer will have problems with information regarding his work, he should go to our [C4:AC] Knowledge Base thread where useful links(I already see quite a bunch in this thread) would be collected and cathegorised.
After the thing has been made, it's tested (if it's programming) by programmers - we should be able to give out the ready implementation to other programmer for testing and different viewpoint/opinion, and then transfered to main "FeedBack" thread, where it's posted as a task for beta testers to test it out.
Either the first Beta tester or the main one (if there's no interest for some time) then starts a discussion thread where they express their sightings. Programmers should then take a look and answer/take care of any inconsistences noticed.
Once a task has been found to be implemented 'satisfactionary' (a piece of code might have a bug under some circumstances but they should be extreme/unexploitable for a human player and avoidable for an AI), it is greyed as 'inactive' in both the FeedBack and Programming tasklist.
And we should soon announce our main designer as he already has one task pending - creation of a C4:AC civgroup icon!

Any volunteers?

Memberlist, Mission Statement and Index are already one thread.
