    Dont worry, we will be off topic as quickly as possible.

    + 4 ECON is the optimum choice because you don't have to do wealth, but still get a healthy amount of commerce and bonuses to base square (the advantage of +4 econ over +3 econ is much greater than +5 over +4)
    There is no difference between +5\+4 econ.(fact)

    Assume the empire being used for these examples is one of ICS strategy...each citizen is a specialist, and 2 boreholes are being crawled per base (for the minerals)...
    I dont know how you could justifiy this, losing 7 energy every turn?

    Therefore, the deciding factor is SE flexibility...since no SE combination can give you a high quality ECON and quality EFFIC setting, you're best off having high EFFIC so atleast you can mess around with your handy sliders...bump up on research and things like that...
    High quality econ rating is +2, a widely accepted goal there. +4 effic is also optimal, so you can have best econ\effic same time. +4 econ isnt that important

      I know that +4 econ gives +4 energy/base tile, a benefit listed for +5 econ, but I believe +5 econ gives a commerce rating 1 higher than +4 econ. True or not, the difference between the two isn't worth much sacrifice.

        Perhaps any additional economy points add to commerce rating... I should make a custom faction with an obscene economy bonus and see.

          When i say its a fact, i mean people-VERY experianced people here-have tested it out very well, despite what the SE screen may claim.

            Unfortunately crawling holes after Environmental Economic is very irrational.
            As Cata points out you lose 6-7 raw ECs per item depending on your economy SE.

            Exactly those 6-7 ECs are what makes Hive ICS+WP so powerful.. (where is Lazerus when you need him?! )

              Considering that +4 economy gives a boat load of energy in the base square, an ICS empire with many bases will benefit greatly...not to mention the extra commerce, which is huge if you are treatied with another ICS human player....

              +2 economy isn't go to do much when a lot of your squares are worked by crawlers...and anyways, my point still stands...how are you going to get +2 economy without doing free market or without being morgan? Eudaimonia comes to late, so you might as well do green to eliminate pacifism and to get higher effic...

                I think you are missing the point...if a citizen was working the squares, then high economy would be weakened (base square produces lower percentage of energy since you now account for boreholes) and effic would be much stronger (worked squares aren't immune to inefficiency)...by saying that the squares are worked by crawlers, I actually weaken effic in my example....it strengthens my point because I am saying that effic is better than economy, even when in my example effic is much weaker than when it normally would be...
