isn't the self-destruct a designe feature though? I've never used it. Are they better than convenitional missiles?

I think of stuff like the Enterprise in Star Trek self destructing. It makes a big bang.

You are talking about APC's - they are expected to go into combat, thus they are armoured. I was talking about things like lorries - why would they have armour?

Depends on the reactor, I reckon. Though I have never actually figured out the damages.

          In wartime - yes.

Remember that we're not on Chiron..

And after all - why not implement thing which is technically possible.
On Earth if someone decided to armor his milk cistern, people would just say he's wasting resources, not exploiting anything.

ON the other side - when you'll take it to scrapping facility ir'll cost WAY more because all that metal and other materials will clearly be valuable.

I don't see it as one...even though it's a pain in the ass to do it.
I think Sikander was referring to using upgraded crawlers to rush SPs. Many consider that an exploit since it seems artificial and the AI never does it.

Damage is equal to weapon strength divided by 2 multiplied by your reactor value

So a weapon 10 unit with a fusion reactor kills ALL adjacent fission units (armor is irrelevant) unless in a base ( I'm not certain if bunkers act as bases for this purpose).

It can be a super effective tactic against crawler fields. Plink a couple to get into the middle and then kaboom.

Its also the reason that I say that there is no combination of units that is survivable in the open against an opponent with tech parity and the same number of minerals to spend attacking your stack. Once you get to weapon 10 values and above, you are talking reducing the strength of EVERY unit in the stack by half with a single self destruct ( assuming same reactor values) and 2 self destructs kills the entire stack

Ah, that's how the self destruct works I've never used it cause I'd rather have that unit do a suicide charge thing.

In order to balance self destruct, I think it should cause extra drones...I mean, come on people, like people enjoy being creameted by a nuclear bomb...

IIRC self destruct will in fact take out bunkered units as well.

Is the range of self-destruct damage limited to adjacent tiles? Is diagonal considered adjacent? Does anything (e.g a larger reactor) increase the range?

Yes it is limited to adjacent tiles and yes diagonal is considered adjacent. Nothing makes the range bigger ( I know you are thinking of Planet Busters with that idea)

hmm, I think my next game I'll try something ineteresting. I'll conduct my wars with self destrucing units.

I also want a huge planetbuster war. i'll save that to the end.

Fine idea against strong stacks but very wasteful against scattered unit and useless against any unit in a base

I couldn't figure out how to self destruct? I looked on the menus but didn't see it there. What's the hotkey for it?

Does the reactor have to be fusion or higher? (mine was still fission).

Anyways, it was still the same game I was playing with the 2 morgan factions (I was talking about earlier), but the power went out. I hope my autosaves was on. I went a long time without saving. It seems I lose power alot at my house. At least twice a year. oh well.

that game was going difficult. As one of the morgan factions was seriously out-researching me and getting all the SP's. I figure I should be able to still get ascent to transcendence because I can literally buy it with my free market economy. I'm bringing in good energy. But it could be a close game. It's funny how well they do with one line added in (expand). Though they may have started in the monsoon jungle- I keep forgetting to check.

Disband the unit (hotkey is Shift + d). You'll be presented with several options, one of which is "Activate self-destruct overload sequence!"
