That little incident nearly drove me from SMAC all together.

Well, your terraforming (boreholes etc.) remains and overall I think it's one of the funniest things in SMAC/X, because it sometimes makes Single Player sooooo interesting!

What's the fun of having 10 times the power of the second most powerful faction?
      No challenge..

But when I last came in situation You describe I was amazed how interesting it turned out.

I had a huge techlead, but little resources except for those nutsats hangin over my head..

Spartans immediately took advantage on this (had been at Vendetta with them from the very start because they disliked my Wealth.. ) and came in with 6-1-10 Needlejets.

I built one 1-<6>-1*2 defender in my closest-to-Spartans base and an Aerospace Complex (which later helped with nutsat output) and held off the entire Spartan Air Force..

      (1-<6>-1*2 effectively gives 6 * (100% [base value] + 100%[complex] + 100%[AAA] ) * 2 [reactor]= 36 AA defense.
6-1-10 NJs are no good for that..

I don't play for the challenge of beating the AI.....that is nearly a given. I play in a similar way one would play SimCity. I like the 'build an empire' feel to it. War is just a tool to accomplish this, which I avoid unless the AI has something I want. It is more about control than conflict for me, so no, losing all of my cities sucked.

Most combat bonuses stack multiplicatively. What you should have had is:

            6 (base) * 2 (AAA) * 2 (Aerospace) * 2 (effect of reactor) = 48.

Don't forget bases give +25% defense...

Well, I didn't remember how exactly, so I gave the minimum value..
Anyways - seeing how 4-5 NJs die on a single defender each turn was fun!

Not mentioning it became elite after 3 or 4 turns IIRC..

Yeah and sensors too, but these bonuses were almost nullified with Spartan morale bonus..

If you send me that save Id really enjoy in finishing it!

I think that is subsumed by perimeter defenses, naval yards, aerospace complexes, and tachyon fields, though I'm not prepared to test it right now.

                    You're right on this CT.
IIRC as soon as base has any defense facility for the given attacker, the +25% bonus is replaced by 100% from the facility.

That was my problem. I hadn't saved it all day. All I had was the autosave after the bug struck. I since have used the autosave in another game.

If it ever happens to me again, I'll save it for ya BT.

all I can say is drop infantry are the bomb! yeah I know the bomb is 90's slang. I don't know what you kids say today. pwns or something like that.
I don't know about "the bomb" being very old slang. My friends and I still use it on occasion in that usage, sometimes replaced by "teh bomb" in that annoying sort of way. For reference, I'm 18.
