Yes, I'm considering that option. The downside of that is that it makes the first page awfully busy for an almost dead forum (more so than an actually active forum with a more stringent setting), that doesn't seem quite right either. For even most of the less active forums "last year" should be fine I expect. I haven't made any decisions yet, will do so on a per-forum basis when I go through them (I may consult the respective communities locally if I'm not sure, if not feel free to complain if you disagree with my/our decisions).

I will probably do that for all archives though, it's a bit silly that some of those are set to "last 10/30 days" when the most recent post is several years old (I just dread having to go through something like 50+ archives to set that May have to figure out if it can easily be mass-changed in SQL, but I don't think that distinguishes between archives and forums, making that a bit hard)

For now I see three forums in the Miscellaneous category: Other Games, Spore, and Off-Topic.

If you plan to strip this category down to just the Off-Topic forum than Off-Topic is a perfect name for that category.

Yes, assume for the moment that it will be stripped down to just the OT forum (+ subfora). If we do keep Other Games in there we'll probably change it to Miscellaneous, that would make perfect sense.

These forums take up no server resources and very little space on the forum page in a place where they're not in anyone's way, so again, if you don't like them, don't visit those forums.

The Apolyton forum layout is just bizarre. It looks like it was designed by a sadist who enjoys changing things up randomly with the most popular destinations buried under layers and layers of crap no one uses.

Here's another thing that pisses me off

The news thing in the top right. You select a NEWS ITEM and click GO or GO(N) and it takes you to a generic webpage with nothing about the news to be seen!

The one time I did use it (something about Wii and CivRev), I clicked "Go" and ended up at the CivRev webpage but no where on the first page did it mention the Wii. Apparently it was in the archives or something but that wasn't immediately obvious either.

You need to make a clean sweep and fire your technical staff. I've never seen such chronic stupidity on a site for so many years.

Before the changes there was nothing wrong with it. Tomorrow, pending some internal staff discussion, the category formerly known as Miscellaneous will likely consist solely of the Off-Topic forum, in which case it makes a whole lot less sense.

CivRev is Civ and as such our 'core business', Spore isn't and we don't cover it at all beyond that forum (much like with Paradox and Nation States, although we'll almost certainly be killing those). We'll probably end up moving the Spore forum to underneath Other Games, it's just a matter of deciding whether Other Games will be in the same category as Off-Topic, or become a category of its own right (under which MoO and RoN etc would be moved as well). Give us 24 hours...
