Well there's your answer. BtS IS finished. It's just buggy/unbalanced.
Then we have a different definition of finished.

I have some sympathy with this view - but the fact Vanilla Civ4 is one of the greatest games ever just makes it a larger crime that BtS is (at least up to this point, many months after release) a regression.

I have a hard time seeing how this entirely reasonable position can be considered a slight.

The days of "finished" software have been over for over a decade now. I'm rather with Dale here - BtS is finished. Could it have used more development time? Sure, but that can be said for anything. If it got two more months of time, it could still have used 2 more months, ad infinitum.

Yeah, there are still bugs and balance issues. The balance issues are, IMO, not major in 3.13 (although it did ship with a couple of major balance issues originally ) and the bugs aren't in the category where they fully break the game. There are two or three, I think, major gameplay bugs but they're not going to hit you in every game. Still, BtS surely needs a second patch to fix some of these issues. And a second patch will be released. I don't know if any serious gameplay bugs will remain after it, of course, but hopefully there will be no decisive need for a 3rd party unofficial patch.

As for them trying to get you interested in the next game, please. As of now, no one is. They're not dropping "stay tuned for Civ5 news" messages all around. Heck, the game hasn't even been announced yet, we don't even know if they are actually making Civ5 - for all we know, at this point it could be just that they have the thought of continuing the franchise at some future point, which would hardly be surprising.

A regression? Do you know what regression even means? Regression is returning to a FORMER state. I see no moving backwards, simplifying of complexity, or even de-development in it. Therefore what you say is a falsity.

You said that BtS was not finished. BtS is obviously finished (be it buggy/unbalanced). You said your comment with disdain and disregard for it. Therefore you slighted BtS. Thus, you said a slight.

A game that is buggy and unbalanced without any sign of improvement for half a year is unfinished, no matter how some here want it to turn it.

            Let's see...

            C3C - buggy and unfinished
            Civ4 - good and finished
Warlords - let's forget about it
            BtS - buggy and unfinished

Looks like a regression to me. There are a lot of falsities in this thread, but not from DrSpike.

C3C is about as fun as BtS to me tbh. Atleast C3C doesn't have broken espionage.

Espionage works as intended I believe.

Yeah, as intended, unfortunately it's still broken.

You might want to look up what a "regression" actually is because once again you've proven yourself wrong, along with Spikey.

It means you regress. There is regression in his list. Suggest you look up the definition yourself, hotshot.

C3C - "We have your money. You are now screwed."
Civ4 - "We learned our lesson and deliver a finished, polished game"
Warlords - "Sorry we ran out of money and have to milk you again for little improvement."
BtS - moving toward "We have your money. You are now screwed." with increasing speed.

Regression, regression, regression. Not in game development, but in QA attitude, which is Spikeys point in case you didn't get it.

Oh I forgot, for the "there will be another patch" crowd... The same was said for C3C. "Working on it, have patience." for months. Turning down offers from fans (SirPleb on CFC, iirc) to fix it, too. Until the short note, that sorry, we aren't able to fix what we broke but stay tuned for Civ4.

No I don't have a deja vu. Yet. I still hope for a final patch. But I can smell it 'round the corner, and the stench is horrible.
