Sometimes ignoring a bully is the best way. Sometimes its not. Sometimes it is the best way, but we humans, imperfect as we are, respond anyway.

I did, at the end, set Asher on "ignore" but by that time things had moved on, apparently. It was no longer about me, but about the publishing of PMs and such.

What I saw was LotM complaining about Asher being a big meanie across several threads. I saw it continuing in a thread he hadn't even posted in and I saw Asher show up and respond in kind. .

I merely said I was being stalked by a jerk. It was a logical response to something Dr spike and I were discussing. Was it an insult to say I was being stalked? Was it an insult to say that someone who stalked me is a jerk? Again, without mentioning names, or ANY specific trait or description.

Asher did NOT respond in kind, he immediately went for the Jew angle.

Oh, it's tremendously "worse" than what Asher does.

then its wrong, and should be dealt with. Period. It would seem to make more sense to take it up in an "Aneeshm is being unfairly bullied thread" than in a "free Asher" thread.

What I see is a twofold issue:

1. People sympathetic to the plight of restricted posters, taking their side based on the publicly available evidence. Oerdin's post is a great example:

KH posted a Leaving Forever thread and then DanQ banned him for it. Oh, the irony.

The fact that only one side of the story is published makes it easy to build support and sympathy for the banned.

2. The concept of "inconsistency" as code for "personal vendetta." It sounds very high-minded to say that "all we want is consistency" when the very nature of a modded BBS requires judgments to be made. We've all agreed to play by the site rules, and to abide by the decisions of the admins.

I really, honestly don't see any big differences between today and 5 years ago in how the rules are enforced. There have always been instances where a banning or PCR seemed to be a bit on the random or personal side.

It would be nice to have full transparency in rules enforcement. It would explain a lot about certain incidents, for sure. But that would involve publication of PMs which are, and should remain, personal.

So that leaves us with reasonable behavior and trust. Both sides (posters and admin) could use a little more of both IMHO. But ultimately, Poly is a site we all visit by choice.

No, the fact is that you created the meme, not Asher. If it had just been Asher everyone would have seen "oh he's just being a dick again." When you started bringing up his attacks in every post you mode, you did a much better job of propagating them.

Yes, this is all just a little game. I really actually like Asher and only want to cause trouble for you. I don't care about this site at all. You got me.

In fact, anyone who ever complains about how anything is being run here is really just secretly enamoured with Asher. Nothing is wrong with the community. Honest.

That's very misleading -- KH was banned for the way in which he said he was "Leaving Forever".

Oh, and lotm: I've had much more vicious attacks directed at me by a number of stalkers (think VJ). I just ignored them.

(I don't think they ever faced mod action, either...)

I take it, from what DanQ posted last night, that Asher is currently banned for posting PM's. While the initial banning is debatable (I guess), this seems pretty clear on the rules.

I guess the question is, Once you post a PM...How long is the stay at the beachfront palace in Mingapulco?
