Watch it! Find me a quote where I said I support Asher or his side of things!

I am simply asking questions here to help everyone gain understanding.

Don't twist my words into something they are not.

Play nice with your friends Ming and they will play nice with you.

I agree. In many ways the moderation here is superior to most other sites. However, it seems quite clear that you must be on the mod's good side as much as possible. The "repeat offender" does not fair well at Poly.

Ming, you completely failed to respond to my "case" in this thread, and LOTM, one of the posters who does see reality and isn't brainwashed by lies, suggested that I make another thread. What are my options?

Your point has been made, and it will be considered.
          Another thread isn't really needed.

Options!?! This isn't a buffet! This is a privately owned site! There are no options unless the owner's say there are options!
            Case closed!!

yes, Ming...I am just playing around.

Hey! Put that banning rod down, I say!!

And I have been answering your questions as honestly as I can. Many people have seen the abreviated version of my PM's with Asher over at CG... It's nice that he only posts what makes him look good

I didn't mean you specifically as believing his spin... it was more for a few others who seem to be buying his line hook line and sinker

See, I dont get this attitude. This is a private site, owned by Dan Q. AFAICT its not a viable commercial venture, its essentially a hobby. Coming here is like visiting someones home, that they have kindly opened to outsiders, in pursuit of some interest.

When youre there, you are polite to all, but especially to the homeowner. Of whom you are a guest. If someone offends the host, they have every right to toss that person. To start playing lawyer with the host, to quibble about consistency, is well, I just dont understand it. The mods here are NOT judges. They are NOT required to be consistent. They are agents for the host, in pursuing HIS vision of the kind of community he wants to host. Now, if you want to make a friendly suggestion to the host about, how a different policy would better match the HOSTS vision, you do it in private. To scream about being ignored in private and censored in public, like the private space was a public space, is just rudeness, to me.

Some of the folks are proud of being rude. It should hardly come as a mystery that such folks alienate their hosts.

If you host a public forum, you can do whatever you want, but some things will lead to no one attending the forum.

I have a couple of issues with this line of thinking:

1.) The hosts have invited people into their home.
2.) The host is responsible for creating a comfortable environment for his/her guests, which in this type of community means one where rules are fairly applied to all. If not, then the guests will go to someone elses house.
3.) Some folks are proud of being rude. If they break the rules the host sets, then they should be asked to leave until they can live by the host's rules. If the host wants to take them in private and they yell at each other then fine. If the guest goes to another house and says "You will never believe what happened to me at..." then that is his business. The host may just not invite him back however.
4.) DanQ is the main owner. Ming, rah, and Locutus all have nice little guest houses out back of the big house. You should go visit...just don't buy that vacation time share from Ming!

And so will allowing people to continue to insult other posters. Many people have left due to the kind of treatment that Asher and others deal out on a regular basis... So we have good members being chased away.

On the other hand, some of the other trouble makers are making the bold statement they aren't coming back because we have restricted a rude person...

Either way... we lose people... at least this way, we lose the right people

                        A. Thats why you make suggestions to the owner, in private. If you are unpersuasive, why should he open it up to the community to discuss? I mean he could do that if he wanted to, but if he chooses not to (and thats been a long settled policy here, and at many other sites as well) why would someone keep getting angry at that?

                        B. For all the "authoritarian modding is killing poly" assertions, I dont see CFC or PEF declining. People always leave sites, they are refreshed by new people drawn by the sites specialty, which here is Civ gaming. I dont own Civ 4, so I dont really follow that part of the site, but I imagine thats where the success or failure of the site really lies.

Also, think that one probable reason why atm the Apolyton OT is nowhere near as populous/lively as the CFC one is that new people here are met with uncontrolled trolling by some older members. This makes it impossible for the community to expand. Infact i am at times surprised by how few different posters there are to be found in the Ot...

I already made this point, but the mods ignored it. Maybe I should make a thread about it?

Have you read the stuff in their OTF? We don't want to attract the kind of people they do.

Potential new posters drawn away by the atmosphere/insults are an even subtler thing. Look at the OTF. How many regular posters do you see that registered recently, say, this year? Granted, we can never know how many people were scared away. But I do know for a fact some were. I remember some Settlers posting a thread for the first time and being met with responses like "No one wants to read that, go away".

That stuff does translate into a good amount of members we never gained.
