It's not even worth the time to point out real facts to some people... They see what they want to, and are more than willing to continue their agendas while ignoring reality.

If they want to support a known repeat offender who continued to insult people after repeated warnings to stop... fine... let them. Their choice.

If people are going to lie about me, Im going to deny it, and try to stop that meme from getting established.


Mostly thats what happened with Asher - he tried to creat this meme that all i posted about was Judaism - despite my long discussions with CH about Kosovo, with Che about socialism, social democracy, dialectics, etc with Imran and Oerdin and many others about US politics, my admittedly amateurish venturing into the realm of technology, etc, etc, etc. A big lie repeated often enough gets believed. When I called Asher on his lies, he resorted to bullying. He was attempting to silence ME, not with a ban, but with his lies, insults, and slander.

Somehow some folks here either didnt see that, or are willing to accept THAT kind of censorship.

About a dozen posters (me being one of them) did a similar thing to aneeshm. Pressured and bullied him in every thread he made because all he ever did was rant about Islam. Did any of us get so much as a warning?

All the oldtimers here regularly do the DL dance on Settlers and generally treat them in an unwelcoming, asinine way. Do any of them get so much as a warning? How many new posters never become members of this community because of that?

Asher's a dick. And he's a public dick. But there are other dicks, too.

Not really... I deleted a bunch of threads on the subject and wanted a single place for the discussion.

Everyone on this forum saw that, lotm. The correct moderator actions should have been "Asher, you're being an idiot, shut up." But also I think you lost some hearts and minds the way you responded to it (by being consistently defensive). I would have just ignored him.

Yep... there sure are.
But the big difference is, when some people get warned, they stop. Asher just gets worse when he is warned

A. While Aneeshm does from time to time post about things other than India, Hinduism and Islam, and the meme that that is ALL he ever posts about is misleading, I would say that my own posting is rather more diverse. The vast majority of my posts about Judaism are asides in other threads, not threads I start, which are usually about other matters

B. Aneeshm bugs a lot of people, I think, not so much for his posting about Hinduism, but for his apparent bigotry towards Islam. I myself have not attacked any religion or culture in that way, that I can recall.

C. Even so, I think, that such bullying would be wrong. I didnt notice it, perhaps because I usually dont read his threads. If anything equivalent to what Asher did is done there, than of course the mods should address it in the same way.

D. I dont really see a DL dance as equivalent. I dont know the mods policy towards it.

What I saw was LotM complaining about Asher being a big meanie across several threads. I saw it continuing in a thread he hadn't even posted in and I saw Asher show up and respond in kind. Then I saw LotM play all innocent when you came down hard on Asher.

You (or you on behalf of the rest of the staff, it hardly matters) have been annoyed with Asher for quite some time and were just looking for the excuse to slap him down. While I empathize with the feeling (who doesn't want to slap Asher down on occassion?), the reality of the situation didn't warrant it. If anyone should have been restricted (and it's a bit of a stretch to think anyone should have) it was LotM.

The reality was, you overreacted. Then you overreacted again when people started questioning in. The whole handling of the situation has been hamfisted and has only served to make the problem worse.

But sure, blame Asher if it makes you feel better. He makes a great scapegoat. Besides, that way you don't have to look to the way things are being run. It's far easier to rely on the group-think of a staff forum and use the community forum as merely a platform for what you've already decided than to deal openly with criticism (valid or otherwise) and move things forward in a constructive way.
