The History Forum must stay since the threads will drop out of the 1st page very quickly.

One could make the argument that this happens to a number of technology threads as well.

I can believe that -- those that don't want to discuss History (generally) won't visit the History forum etc.

As with any forum or sub-forum, its continued existence is not guaranteed at infinitum. Time will tell.

my initial expectation was that it would be used as a dumping ground for threads in on-topic forums, mainly Civ 4 forums, that have gone hopelessly off topic into history areas

Either there have been few such threads in the on topic forums, or the on topic mods arent doing their jobs, cause I havent seen ANY such threads appear in the history subforum.

I dont think anyone expected that deliberately started history threads alone would carry it.

I'm going to make a suggestion that I have absolutely no doubt will be controversial, but it might just work.

Make me moderator of the History forum.

What the forum needs is a helping hand to build momentum and to get itself established on people's viewing habits. It needs new threads and new life. Over the past few months there has been ample opportunity for anyone to take it by the scruff if the neck and kick some life into it. Nobody has proved to have either the ability or inclination to do so- not even while its future was being debated in this thread.

I'm willing to do so. If you think anyone on these boards has greater ability and inclination to get activity going on that forum, then for Christ's sake give them the mod position and tell them to pull their finger out. Feel free to suggest names for those you think could do a better job, and provide excuses for why they haven't done so already.

That's my pitch. I'm not going to cry or sulk if you come up with someone better, but whatever you do- come up with someone more than just a glorified net-nanny.
