The following restructuring within our CivIV forums has been discussed and debated amongst the staff for a little while now and the following changes have been executed:

    1. "Civ4 Strategy & Education" and "Civ4 Help" forums absorbed by "Civ4 General", now "Civ4 General/Help/Strategy".

    2. "Civ4 Multiplaying"'s "Civ4 MP Tournaments" sub-forum absorbed into main forum.

Prompted by Sirotnikov's notes and suggestions, and my own assessment:

    3. "Civilization Series General"'s "Civ1 & Colonization" and "Civilization (Non-Windows)" sub-forum absorbed into main forum; now "Civ Series General/Legacy/Non-Windows" and a forum of "Civilization IV" for greater exposure and related natures.

    Some further comments:

  • I can see the argument here, but the "History" sub-forum of "Off Topic" will not be absorbed back into the OT. Its traffic may be smaller than "Sports", but it's still an identifiable and viable niche for discussions in that forum.
  • "Other Games" does not belong as a sub-forum of "Off Topic". While some "Other Games" topics do appear in the "OT", "Other Games" will remain as a separate forum entity, and their sub-forums within that identity.
  • I disagree that the "Civilization Series-General" has even been a bad idea, but perhaps it is better served as a separate forum within the "Civilization IV" grouping once again -- its should get, and certainly previously got, better exposure there even if strictly speaking it doesn't exactly 'belong' in that grouping. (See related note above).
  • "Alternate Civs" forums are remaining as they are -- an identifiable and viable part of the Apolyton community.
This appears strangely sensible.

while the history subforum has been disappointingly quiet, and has been too dominated by arguments among a few, the OT has become such a zoo, in particular thanks to certain folks who take pride in being jerks and displaying their jerkiness at every opportunity, that I prefer a seperate history subforum for now.

Other Games of course should remain seperate, I see no reason to integrate it to OT.

                      a) small
                      b) almost the same as for all other OT niches.
Thereby creating a situation where a single person has to visit 4 different off topic forums, in addition to the on-topic he is browsing.
(and they are: OT, History, Sports, Other Games).
No, I dont browse the Sports forum hardly ever. When I have good sense, I look at history and OG, and skip OT.

The OG forum has historically had a different culture than OT, and I hoped a history forum would as well. Unfortunately one of the OTs key jerks has started to import his poor behavior and crude rhetoric into OG, but that can probably be stopped by the forum rallying against it. Historyfo has been a tad aspergerish, but the sheer erudition of some of the asperery types has been a worthwhile, and probably inevitable, tradeoff.

Maybe im overreacting. Ive never been the target of an OT jerk in quite the same way before.

I just stuck my nose into the History sub-forum. One post in the last three days. Pretty pathetic.
