  • Suggestion for civ4 (sub) Forum structure

There are many civ4 (sub) forums, and most of them are hardly used. There are MANY topped threads that are hardly used either.

I think that our civ4-forum structure is totally not-attracting for new members since they have to browse through many useless forums to find some or no info. I think it's better to bring as much as possible info together. It's better to have 1 active forum then 2 semi-active forums, imho.

I have made a suggestion: (al dates are dd-mm-yy)

    First: delete the following forums
    Civ4-Stories/Reviews (last posts: 29-01-07, 12-01-07, 25-09-06)
    Civ4-Hall of Fame/SP Tournaments (16-10-06)
    Civ4-Single Player Democracy Game (13-02-07, 12-01-07, 19-12-06)

    Merge the following forums
    Civ4-Apolyton University & Civ4-Strategy & Education
    Civ4-Multiplaying & Civ4-MP Tournaments

    Make the following forums subforums
    Civ4-Help under Civ4-General
Civ4-Warlords Democracy Game AND Civ4-Team Democracy Game UNDER Civ4-Multiplaying

I think there's more that can be axed, now I've focussed only on the really inactive forums. There are some forums out there as well with only a very few players that keep things active. A new / improved structue may give new life to these forums.

I also propose to keep as few as possible unsticky threads. It's so annoying to have to scroll down to the first active really interesting post.
I suggest that only posts with information will be topped. Other threads, ie. with screenshots, don't need to be topped. And info threads for new patches etc. can be unstickied after a few months as well.

    Agreed?

Not really. At list not at all of your points.

No forum should be deleted. Archived yes, but deleted? I don't feel good with deleting other people's work...

Merging MP with Tournaments is OK with me
      I don't know about merging AU with S & E since I don't hang around there...

As for your last two suggestions sound kind logical but haven't given much thought to it yet.

Well, I mean deleting the forum, not it's content, that should be archived obviously.

And thanks for agreeing with me for once

Could they instead be moved to some other forum? - merged
(The idea of archiving don't sound good to me)

Or at least be put as a "locked" subforum for some time before archiving.

Just my two cent's - while hoping for a playable CivV in the future.

Rest of your suggestion I can support...

As a hack writer and writing is a passion of mine, I only really had a small pang in my heart, for removal of the CIV-4 Stories, it would be a shame since we all want this site to continue to grow, that we narrow our options.

I have *Hopes* in the future more writers will emerge and contribute more works

                Just my small input.

I do agree that it is very slow, but my hope is it will eventually pick up

Well, if a forum is getting some traffic it should stay

Whether it is merged with another forum or changed to a subforum is another story.

To avoid any (public) questions about whether or not the administration has read and is considering the recommendations in this thread , the answer is yes.

When we're talking of forum management, who in the staff got the "brilliant" idea of changing the already little active Paradox games forum (for all Paradox games; EU1-3, HoI1/2/DD, CK, Victoria/V:R and so on), to only EU1-3?

Sensible suggestions, and I hope they are properly considered.

This change was not based on activity in it in any way.

This change was to align (pardon the "corporate speak", though appropriate) the forum with others on-site in terms of a) consistency (i.e. no forums dedicated to a specific gaming company's titles) and b) coverage (where some of the games made by this company fall out of the (direct) scope of this site).

But CK, Victoria and HoI all is built on the same idea and is played in a similar way. Actually, all Paradox games is grand strategy games as EU1-3! The games they publish for other companies is a whole other matter.
