I think this is an improvement, but when there's time you might still want to consider a few mergers.

Re: Time to amend the Off-Topic status?

I have been following the wider debate about 'Poly with interest. It seems clear that there are many things that keep people here, perhaps when they aren't playing Civ (for me it was Other Games, which at times has been quite active and great fun), and OT is just one. I guess the questions really are:

      1) how successful is 'Poly generally in maintaining it's community, and

      2) are there significant differences across groups.

Obviously the OP has views about the latter.

I'm intrigued: how many OT posters think they (or their fellow OTers who have left) would stay longer with posts counting? What does "Markos's open ambivalance" mean, and how it is distinguished from the ambivalance (or perhaps to be more fair lack of admin time) that has at times affected many on topic forums? Is there really considerable OTer support behind OT subforums? From reading through it seems there are differing views, and thus the situation with the subforums could be seen as a conscious admin decision rather than admin ambivalence. Or it might not. Views please.

On the specific forum consolidation discussion front, let's move it to its own dedicated thread found at:

I prefer it that way. A history forum would be acceptable. As it semi-relates to the site. But everything else should remain in off topic.

CFC has a history forum, Paradox has a history form; I don't see why we shouldn't have one, Civ is a historically-based game afterall.

Is the interest big enough, though? CivFanatics has a forum community large enough where the forum is significant and has activity. Can we honestly say that for us anymore?

I just want to say that when/if Lancer would leave Apolyton, it would from my perspective be a big loss. I consider him one of the best posters. His sense of humor is second to none, and his threads always cheer me up

I personally love History and learning of origins of various people groups and leadership and even leadership that led to destruction.

I love the idea of a History Forum, but question whether or not we would face what happens all too often in OT,

                          you know

                          ect.

If a History forum was allowed, would it be kept to History or be a spam fest of place to attack ideas and ideals from what History has taught us though the ages?

no it hasn't, Lancer still Lurks

as for the topic of this post, I haven't really "liked" the OT since CIVIV came out. I mean "liked" because I'm still there more than my boss would and wife (like there's a difference) would like me to be, but it has gotten less active. IMO, I think the fall is because of the new game. Though, I have no idea, seeing as my CIVIV still sits in the box, uninstalled, and unloved

I do, however, like that the OT is slower in that I don't lose what conversations were about any more. Who needs 3.5 pages of new crap every day if it is the same crap? How many threads on the same damn thing do we need? I hate CFC because of this. Every other week there is a poll (of which they have too many) on whether you like sweet or dill pickles or some other BS like that. It drives me nuts! Then, if I have an argument to make against a certain poster, and I write it, and then post it, my post is usually 5 pages further in the thread and makes for a heck of x-post, especially when it makes me look like I'm callying someone other than eyrei a stupid Frenchie!

Heck, if there are complaints about the OT then something must be wrong... just don't punish me. I don't troll or spam much... right?

Regardless, I applaud the mods and owners of this site for putting up with it, and a lot of the regulars around here who either complain that there is too much moderation and then turn right around and complain that there is not enough when the start to lay off... Damned if you do, so I say don't.

Give Laz his history forum, because I want to hear more of his trash.
                              Monkey!!!

One good thing about a history forum would be all the interminable threads about which civs should be in civ and what traits they should have could be moved there.
