The Altera Centauri collection has been brought up to date by Darsnan. It comprises every decent scenario he's been able to find anywhere on the web, going back over 20 years.
25 themes/skins/styles are now available to members. Check the select drop-down at the bottom-left of each page.

You could rename it to 'Files' or 'File Directory' in case people think it's a directory of members.

well that's because the directory doesnt just have downloads, but also also images, links, strategies, etc
Well and there you see the problem. The stuff I seek in the directory are downloads therefore I forget about rest. If even I forget what you can find there, then someone who is not familiar with Apolyton has no idea what this directory contains.
And I doubt you want to tell this every new guy, what this is. The consequence of this is that it must be clear on the homepage what it conatains. Putting it into a side menu as main category with its content as subcategories would help:
So the main entry Directory would link to the main Directory and the subcategory links to the subcategories in the directory. And of course if we have them something like this:
The subcategories of Civ4 would link to the Civ4 part of the forum or the Civ4 part of the directory.
This way everyone would find this kind of information and also people from mainstream gaming sites. So that those people think it is worth to link to us.
The first phase in a "2006 homepage update" for Apolyton was completed and published -- both by me -- this evening. These changes come greatly in response to user feedback, particularly in this thread.
More updates to this page are scheduled to come, but no definitive dates or timelines yet.

In theory I like the changes, but if you have any subscribed forums at all (and especially if you have a fair number of them), too much whitespace!
I liked the news drop-down menu. May I suggest killing the Civgroup news section altogether and bringing back the drop-down box, putting it underneath the news centre and calling it "All news" (since it would include Civgroup, Civ2, CtP, RoN and all other other news that's no longer in the news centre as well)?
Thank you all for the kind words already on the homepage changes yesterday. In response to feedback, two minor modifications have been applied:
1) "Subscribed Forums" listing removed due to potential 'whitespace' issue.
2) News drop-down menu returned, but a) resized and b) relocated underneath 'News Centre'. Other tweaks are that the "Go" button is now labeled "More...", and it has a space between itself and the menu.

They are accessible from your Control Panel.
Naturally we are not going to be able to please everyone with these changes -- not that everyone was pleased before there were any either -- but I have added a link to the Control Panel there which is labeled "Subscribed Forums".
