  • Traffic Rankings Vs. CivFanatics

I always thought Apolyton was the biggest, but it seems Civ Fanatics consistently has more traffic. Interesting. Its also interesting to see just how huge the spike is when Civ4 came out.

That's odd. I've found that the forums in Apolyton are more active. Perhaps this is becomes CivFanatics has more non-forum content?

Edit: Apolyton has 198 members/426 guests on right now, while CivFanatics has 256 members/620 guests right now. Dissapointing - my assumption was wrong.

I think CivFan is more noob oriented and tends to attract younger gamers - i.e. more gamers.

Of course, I prefer quality over quantity any day.

Agreed. Plus, Apolyton's Off Topic has more substance, sense of community, and less idiocy than CFC's Off Topic. Some people come here purely for the OT - this is not the case for CFC.

I like the lighter touch with moderation here than on CivFanatics. I've gotten several threads deleted over there for one reason or another.

That can come back to the community as well, we know each other more and are more understanding. But who knows.

One thing I will say though is that for modding, CivFanatics really beats down Apolyton. Don't ask me why, but when I'm looking for a map or mod or something, I always go there first.

Well, Civ 3 or Civ 4 modding. Civ2 Modding is pure Poly.

              As is AC.

Well, now I can cross that off my list of things to do in this lifetime:

              Visit civfanatcs once

Thanx for giving me the opportunity to do this, Ozzykp!

One thing I like about CivFanatics OT is that post count still matters there, though.

http://www.alexa.com goes back 2 years, and for the entire period CivFanatics is ahead of 'poly.

'Poly is clearly better as there are more people with more than 10K posts. Civfan is great for a quick snack, but 'Poly is the 3 course feast.

Are they still giving +1s for OT posts? I'm not sure, but I think that I still have more posts there than I do at 'poly. I've posted more here of course, but the OT doesn't count. Not that I think it should, of course.

They do. I've been only posting in the Ot there and I'm reaching 100 posts.

And they should, IMO. The OT is just as much a part of the community as the on-topic sites.

CF is bigger than Poly? That was surprising!
