    Just a comment.

I play AOM happily without crash problems most of the time. Occassionally there is one related to the chariot archer unit being clicked an dragged. So I use the "m" hot key for movement as much as possible. Saves time as well.

Otherwise in 19 out of 20 games I have no more problems than with MS Word or PSP7 which freeze or crash every now and then.

Those people who have got the AOM CD and ARE playing it, (unlike most modders it seems), have universally (almost) complained the ai is too aggressive and the game is too hard. I settled on the ai improvements as, in my opinion, the ai acts like a human player in on line play, can never be trusted until it fears you, and then only slightly. The other comment is that geography and resources are now CRITICAL, which is what I wanted.

I still have 7 legit copies of CTP2 to on sell, can be ordered from the AOM website:

Yes, it is a little bit difficuilt to understand. We fixed and improved a lot of stuff. So in theory the source code edition should be suppirior. But unfortunatly we discovered a problem recently, that prevents certain kind of slic code to execute properly. In fact that holds for the original game as well. But there it might work sometimes, sometimes not and sometimes it makes the game crash. And that is something we don't want to see and therefore it doesn't make sense to restore the orignal state regarding this issure.

No, that's 'only' 1.6 GB -- but that's only for the first half hour or so ('Poly is on EST right? and Dan posted this thread at 23:30 EST if I calculated it right)

The first full 24 hours it produced 56 GB

Which means that one person out of 130 only downloaded 1/2 the Mod. It'll be a little hard to play it without the rest of it...

Actually there were 196 hits in total, that's only 300 MB/hit. Some people on slow connections probably download the thing in several sessions spread over several days, and some use accelleration software which gives multiple hits per download. And of course downloads that are started before 0:00 but end after it, get spread out over 2 days in the stats (or at least I think so). The strangest thing is that there are quite a few people that appear to have downloaded it twice, a couple even more often. I can only speculate that that's overenthousiastic accelleration software or something like that

If I'm reading the stats right (but I'm not sure I am) there are (at least?) 82 unique downloads.

better not take the apache stats into account locutus, i'm judging based on the total transfer stats that we from EV1 based on data collected from our network connection...

it's probably cause by downloaders which split the file in parts and do multiple requests to the server. this probably messes apache's reporting somehow....

did a small test, apache doesnt log anything differently if you cut the connection, it only logs requests....

For the time being, questions about AOM itself, bugs, strategies, will be answered at the AOM forum:

It makes sense to have it all in one place.

Later AOM will transfer to Apolyton.

Just a quick note to help people get going with AOM.

The main changes between AOM and CTP2 and other mods would be.
                              1) The new outpost tile improvement. This allows you to use a good anywhere on the map (as long as it is in owned territory) to gather golde and/or pw. In addition certain outposts on goods add happiness, fight disasters or promote bonus events. This leads to a player being able to claim and use tracts of territory which otherwise, tended to be ignored and left empty.
                              2) Supply for military units, changes how you conduct war. Along with this comes sieges and supply trains.
                              3) A complete range of military units for each period including flanking infantry for use in mountains.
                              4) AI has been beefed up, passive personalities removed, attack beefed up in strategies.txt and a spearate code that makes it more likely ai armies(size 10+) at war with you are more likely to attack if they start next too you.
                              5) New scoring system which gives points for cities, wonders, territory and triumphs but deducts your aggression level.
                              6) Special historical events, the Dark Ages, Huns, Mongols and Black Death.
                              7) Elite units, generals and heroes as well as more wonder units.

Outposts are the biggest single change, changes the way you play, geography and location of resources is now critical.
