  • no, we are definately not going have people post spam to increase their post count.

however, i'm willing to by hand correct the post counts of people who have lost their avatar rights (e.g. went below 500 posts). interested people can post here

    • Thanks.

Could you please increase my post count by

      308 posts (569 - 261 = 308).

I'm pretty sure it's possible. I don't know much about databases, but the crash date, restore date and backup date must be known, so it should be possible to search for all posts made in the "lost" period, keep a tally of all the posts and add them to the profiles. But the question is if that's really worth the effort.

I'm afraid that's not gonna be of much use. I just happened to have had a look at the members list (looking for my own, so only other posters with post counts near me are on that list too)and 2 profiles (including mine) several days before the crash.

So the only SL regulars I know pre-crash post counts of are well past the 500 post mark.

            For the curious:
            :) smiley (2689)
            CapTVK (2665)
            jim panse (1855)
            Mercator (2513)
            N35t0r (2446)
            techumseh (2656)
            The ANZAC (2380)

(And not that it matters anymore now, but I'd be against the spamming method as well.)

As sticky threads they never got archived, right? Doesn't this present a problem for future updates?

They didn't get archived, but they were on the backup (two different things). They're being restored later, as Markos mentioned.

(Or did you mean something else?)

I believe I checked this back when the crash was still recent: Only the posts made in the period between the backup and the crash were lost. But most of the tips threads were pretty old already. I believe there's just one thread that may be lost, and that's the latest hex-edit doc thread. But I got that latest version, so nothing's lost there.

                Welcome back!

I guess I was a little unclear. The threads in the Hints, Tips and Guides subforum were always 'live', regardless of the date of last post, because they never got archived. Many have been updated years after they were created. If they are transferred to the main forum there will be nothing to distinguish them from 'normal' threads. I can't see MarkG trawling through the SL Great Library to determine what should or shouldn't be archived. Do you intend to bump some of these threads (eg, the hex-editing ones) before each round of archiving?

                  • Ah I see... Markos?

I suppose the ideal solution would be to move them off the forum altogether and put them up on the SLeague wiki.

                            Now I am curious.

I dont really care about the post count. I just miss some of those old threads whenever I get nostalgic and want to surf the CIV 2 area. I spent most of my time there when I first came to Poly so if they can be restored, I for one, would appreciate it
