What if you could support causes you care about while reading this post? Your device’s unused computing power can help scientists tackle some of the world’s biggest problems: from finding better #HIV and #cancer treatments to more efficient sources of renewable energy? I just joined World Community Grid to help – join me!

Though it took him 3 times the # of devices, and ~4 times the CPUtime to do it.
I had actually planned on bragging about it...until I realized the truth of your statements.

            Crummy work computers!

What kind of CPU are you running anyway? Kuci's looks pretty hot as well. Wonder what he is running?

                • On May 20th, it eclipsed 10,000 years of CPU time.

Today we crossed a significant milestone. Our virtual community of World Community Grid volunteers has racked up a whopping 10,000 years of computer time!

We have reached 10,000 years of run time in a mere 6 months. This incredible achievement has brought the Human Proteome Folding project to the 60 percent completion point. It would have taken the Institute for Systems Biology, the project's sponsor, nearly 100 years to accomplish this with their existing supercomputers -- or one processor 10,000 years! Think about what humanity was doing that long ago and how far we have come. Simply amazing.

I'm going to start this, with the same specs as Kuci.

Mine can´t participate, the cooler fails after a while and I can´t find a replacement that works

                        • Just let me assemble my new PC and we'll see who 0wnz j00. Starting hopefully soon with this. I can't run any BOINC based stuff as it causes me BSODs and instability. Not sure why as haven't overclocked and temps are all normal. But this one doesn't, so good idea to pick up again on this.

                          Asher,

Any idea if the client code is optimized for some CPU codesets? Like MMX, SSE, SSE2 and SSE3. Or HyperThreading? Just wondering if AMD or Intel systems have an advantage. Couldn't find on the website any details.

                              • After this project wraps up in ~December, a few new ones will launch.

One of the "shoo-ins" will be Human Proteome Folding 2, HPF2:

We (Rosetta-folding crew ISB+UW+MIT) put in another proposal for a second phase of the HPF project. The second phase would be completely different in both methods and motivation. In HPF2 we would drill down and refine a few key predictions from phase one with more physically accurate energy functions. This will get us higher resolution results that can be used in fundamentally different ways than the broad sweep we're making with phase one. The proposal is in the pipe, but its up to IBM, as I'm sure there are a lot of other good proposals in the pipe as well. It'll be exciting to see what's next either way.
They have received other submissions as well...we should learn more at the end of Septmeber for which projects were approved to run on the Grid.
