OK Ming. Before your finger hit the trigger, did you notice the polite question asking if any technical moves were in the offing such as the last round of archiving?

You see, I'm slightly puzzled as to how that was, for some unaccountable reason, a deleteable topic on Monday and Tuesday, but not on Wednesday and Thursday. Let me come clean here- I'm a long-time user of this forum and I signed up for a paypal account at the weekend. I think I'm going to sign up for Apolyton plus- the only reason I hadn't done so previously was because I thought the site had major server problems.

Up until very recently, the word was that non-"plus" users didn't have second-rate access to the server- the threads are on this forum, after all. That's why I thought that there were very serious problems- hence my queries as to if technical measures were being taken. Stop me if I'm being unreasonable, incidentally.

The communication of current accessibility issues is clearly not reaching all the people who might reasonably benefit from such information, while reasonable enquiries are being whitewashed. As a professional, do you see areas of potential improvement there?

Well my polite technical queries have, thanks to my own persistance more than anything else, been addressed. Incidentally, would it have been answered quicker had it been phrased as a lengthy torrent of abuse? I can do those too- with some considerable verve and gusto, I might add. I didn't do so out of a lingering appreciation of the work done by the volunteers here, but I'm starting to ****ing question that stance.

Night-night. Incidentally, if anyone wants a post summary just read this post as "Thank you, but why do you make me feel like a big steamy turd for asking?"

i'm not sure how you define "very recently" but no-load-saving-features is a month-old PLUS benefit

this info has been posted by me (and others) in an uncounted number of times here, as well as (of course) posted in the news of the site and the PLUS pages.

You see, I'm slightly puzzled as to how that was, for some unaccountable reason, a deleteable topic on Monday and Tuesday, but not on Wednesday and Thursday.
first of all why it was deletable:

now as to why this last one wasnt deleted? i guess cause ming isnt omnipresent

Mark if you could clarify what the benefit actually is it might help a little. I for one don't really understand some of the distinctions drawn in recent threads on this topic. How exactly do PLUS users have preferential access? You're calling it a load saving feature, but if we don't see the msg and non PLUS users do (and have to wait for the load to drop presumably) it's more than a load saving feature right?

            - No Load-Saving Features
(05.07.04) PLUS members will not be affected by load saving features, like avatars dissapearing when load is high or even being denied use of the forums.

So because the server busy message kicks in at high load to stop things slowing down totally it's a load saving feature and hence PLUS members are exempted? Hope I have it right.

Ah, yes. A single post in a "poly plus" support thread, which (seeing as I didn't have "poly plus") I didn't read. I'm not omnipresent either, you see.

Plus another thread, with possibly the least helpful title in the history of the internet. I didn't read that either, due to my aforementioned lack of omnipresence.

                  right DrSpike

Lazarus you are forgeting the about section on which we have had frequent updates on the server status and plus benefits....

(not to mention the other threads on the issue all this last month which of course you'll say that you missed cause you werent here)

perhaps we should put up a popup with the "recent updates on apolyton since your last visit" in huge bold letters so that you dont miss it

That wouldn't be necessary. All you'd need is to refrain from hitting the "delete" button over a thread with the clear and use-friendly title "Server busy". Like the ones I posted on Monday and Tuesday. Do you see?

As ever, stop me if you think I'm being unreasonable....

or you could do a small seach around the site before taking the easy road of starting a new thread....

                            Geez, give it up already.

If you dont want a server busy message subscribe.

The way I look at is that I have litterally gotten years of FREE enjoyment and relaxation out of this site, participating in a hobby/addiction that I truely enjoy.

So I give MarkG and Dan Q a couple of bucks. Im glad to help out the expense they have running and hosting the site, as well as all the time they spend on it.

And a benefit I get is not having to see the server busy message. Which really irritated the crap out of me when I just had to post something to a Demo Game or a PBEM, didn't have a lot of time, and couldn't.

My regrets about the Communication problem Land G, but I dont hang around the Community Forum much and I knew basically what was going on.

And hey Ming is just Ming, ya gotta love him for who he is

That wouldn't be necessary. You see, we have a feature on Apolyton called "Reply" that allows users to make additional comments pertaining to an already-raised topic, while keeping the entire discussion within a single thread. Stop me if I'm getting too technical.

Evening chief. We've not met before, but I've been around a long time.

I too have had a lot of entertainment from this site, and have contributed to the entertainment of others in my own way. The problem is that I'm baffled as to why a polite enquiry on a serious topic kept getting deleted. This is a recent development, after all- and as I think I've demonstrated, the communication could have been improved.

This is all market feedback that can be used to the owner's benefit, and it's free- so I'm buggered as to why it's going down like a cup of cold sick.

                                Whatever.
