  • Penn State Thread

Yes, this should probably be a separate thread so I'll just start one.

One thing that I heard this morning really bothered me.

    Originally reported
According to the report, the assistant told Paterno that he saw Sandusky in the shower with a boy who looked to be about 10 years old. Sandusky was having sex with the child, according to the grand jury report and prosecutors.
The distraught assistant ran from the building and called his father, who advised him to report the incident to Paterno, according to the grand jury and prosecutors.
I heard this morning that the reason that he called his father was that the assistant and Sandusky grew up together. If so, I'm even more outraged. If I had witnessed someone I grew up with and knew doing something like that I would have dragged him off the kid and made sure I did everything to make sure it never happened again.

I certainly wouldn't have just run home and called dad.

So, do ya'll think McGloin is the answer at quarterback for the rest of the season or does Bolden have a chance to make another run at the starting position?

Also, isn't Penn State underrated at #9? I still think they have to be the favorites to win the Big Ten over a Nebraska squad they've already taken down, and don't even get me started on Illinois' chances.

I think you should've specified instead of using "Penn State" as shorthand for a child rape scandal, which is unfair to the Penn State athletes, students, faculty, and alumni who had nothing to do with the sordid actions of the football coaching staff, athletic department, and university president.

Currently it IS shorthand for child rape scandal. And I don't think it's unfair. So deal with it.

No, it isn't, and you are being unfair.

This is what I want to say to you. You are not Joe Paterno. You are not Tim Curley. You are not Gary Schultz. You are not Graham Spanier, and you are sure as hell not Jerry Sandusky. Their alleged sins are not your own. They may be the most recognizable faces of your beloved program, but they are not Penn State. They are not a 156 year old center of higher learning. They are not a century of football tradition. Their flaws cannot eclipse the innumerable scientific, artistic, and humanitarian contributions your university, and its 44,000 students and 570,000 living alumni have made and will continue to make to the world at large.

The spirit of a program, of a university, and of a state is so much bigger than any one person.

Unfortunately that's the nature of the beast. No matter what you think, for the next few years Penn State will be closely linked to this scandal.

If you don't believe me, think "CATHOLIC CHURCH"

I would never start a thread called "Catholic Church Thread" for the sole purpose of discussing child molestation cases. That's lazy and offensive to Catholics.

Both the catholic church and penn state deserve the offense for what they continually swept under the carpet. My god, the man still had access to facilities quite recently. How many years have to go by before they finally get it. They deserve no slack here.

That's an incredibly stupid way of thinking. "Penn State" didn't sweep Sandusky's crimes under the rug; Joe Paterno, Tim Curley, Gary Schultz, and Graham Spanier did.

They represent Penn State. Do you honestly believe that no one else there had any knowledge of this?

I'm almost certain that 99.99% of the people at Penn State had no idea about Sandusky's alleged crimes until their recent revelation.

I could give a rats ass about what 99% of the people knew. It's all about the handful that actually run things. If they knew and did nothing, then the university is getting what it deserves.

I'm sure 99% of Germans during WWII had no knowledge of the Holocaust.

Do you really believe that those 4 were the only ones that knew anything?
