1. How many of your all -time top 20 goalies had instances , IN THEIR PRIME AND UNINJURED where their team chose to start another goalie in game 6 of a playoff series ?

2. How can you project someone as top 5 of all time with no playoff pedigree whatsoever?

Seriously, is there a single person in this thread, other than Ben, who would hesitate to take Chris Osgood "in his prime" before the current "in his prime" Luongo to win a game seven? (Or game 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, for that matter?)

If you can't beat out Ozzy in a hypothetical like that, there is no way on God's green Earth you're a Top 5 all-time goalie; hell, you might not even be a Hall of Fame goalie.

Using stats from hockey-reference.com and not counting last night's game, it appears that Luongo is 2-4 in series clinching games (excluding game 7) with a 2.83 GAA and .906 sv%. Facing elimination (also excluding game 7) he is 1-3 with a GAA of 3.75 and sv% of .902. In his only game 7, he won and gave up 1 goal in 20 shots. In the other playoff games he is 16-12, 2.54, .918.

and asher that beachball pic is funny-- I have had some goalie friends comment on how unusual it was for a goalie to end up on his belly like that and completely take himself out of the play -- He is pretty helpless looking there

The difference does appear to be statistically significant. I also wondered as to the trend over time in all playoff games

Lidstrom has been consistently the best d-man for years but right now if I could add one d-man to my team for a series right now it would be Chara ( if we were talking about gaining their rights for the future I remain a Drew Doughty fan)

looking back at the stats as Luongo's situation fascinates me a bit. IN fairness he hasn't choked nearly as much as I thought, particularly in early series. lets go back

06-07

Luongo was as good as ben indicates in his first ever playoff series (he has never been as consistently good in any series since). Luongo gave up only 5 goals through his 3 losses in this series and his WORST sv% was .926 ( he exceeded .950 in 4 games)

2nd series agaianst Anaheim was not too good. Luongo was 1-4 and had a sv% of .900 or worse on 3 times but in the elimination game he only gave up 2 and was .966 in defeat . Some mediocre stats overall but no choke anywhere



08-09

Lungo was great in the first series and only gave up 5 goals over 4 games in a sweep of the Blues. Worst game was a .923.-- So after 3 career playoff series there was no sign of any choking really


The second series was Chicago and went

The 7 spot and.767 are exceptional. he seems to have those type of stats around zero or 1 times per regular season and to put them up in a season-ending game are exceptional

Moving to 09-10 they started with the Kings and while things didn't look good at the start, Luongo overcame some adversity

So not a bad showing -- Games 2-3-4 were a bit rough but he pulled it out in the end -- but then came those Hawks again
