  • Arkansas hangs on at UGA. I'd rather have seen them collapse in that situation. Would've been comforting to know they're "same old Arkansas." Nice win for Vandy over Ole Miss. @Houston Nutt. The pre-season word was that Ole Miss was a 3-win team without Masoli, 6+ with. They may be worse than a 3-win team even with him. Alabama-Duke is about what everybody should have expected. The most entertaining part of the season may be watching Alby develop an aneurysm trying to convince someone that Temple is relevant.

    • And the early favorite for stupid announcer metaphor/catchphrase most likely to piss me right the **** off through gross overuse is "dial it up". In fact, this looks like the strongest contender since "pick six" whichever year it was everybody started thinking that was ****ing clever. Gary Danielson just used it three times in a span of about ten second talking about Florida's fake punt. "When you have something dialed up you think will work, you dial it up. Meyer saw something there and dialed it up." STFU, Gary.

      • THE GOOD

DRob, again. 240+ yds passing with 2 TD, 100+ yds rushing with 1 TD. He did have his first turnover of the season with an INT on his first pass, but he had another great game.

Finally, someone else stepped up on offense, with Shaw having over 120 yds and 3 TDs. Too early to say if he's the Robin to DRob's Batman, especially against a FCS opponent, but promising nevertheless.

Stonum showed great moves on his 66-yd TD reception off a little bubble screen.

The offense responded well after falling behind by 10 late in the first half.

        THE BAD

Jesus H. Christ. I will ****ing sacrifice a goat to get Greg Robinson fired if I have to. That defense is just absolutely laughable. 439 yds, over 200 on the ground. Completely ****ing unacceptable. The tackling, in particular, has been atrocious. The only saving grace is that the defense has been able to generate turnovers every week thus far.

Once again, a noted lack of killer instinct reared its head. They nearly let UConn back into the opener; actually gave away the game to a crippled Notre Dame only to have DRob save the day; and then let the Minutemen back into the game after storming to a big lead in the third quarter.

        THE UGLY

Oh holy ****, the special teams, I swear to Christ. Another badly missed FG, another near-catastrophe on punt returns, a blocked punt... the best that can be said is that at least they haven't given up a return TD. Yet.

Next Week: home vs. Bowling Green. Should be easy. Will undoubtedly be another adventure.

        • DRob is a beast.

I saw TWO UofM games in the last two weeks, and now I seem to have the Big 10 Network, could this be the first season I actually pay attention to college football?

            • Tonight will probably be the only game this year when I don't cheer for Texas.

#20 Michigan beat UConn 30-10... I noted that Temple should be able to do the same... Temple beat UConn 30-16 so close enough. If Temple played Michigan, it would be competitive. That's all I'm saying... the best team in the MAC can at least hang with the big boys and will be back in a major conference within the next few years.

Watch against Penn State. Temple is not going to get blown out. It's not going to be a cupcake game for Penn State.

So far, Imran laughed at the prospect of Temple trashing UConn and he was wrong... Who's next to be wrong?

                • I admit, Temple is better than I thought. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them hang tough with Penn State next week, only to see the Nitanny Lions pull away in the fourth quarter.

And if the last two weeks have taught me nothing else about Michigan, it is that any team would give them competition. The offense will score, and the defense and special teams will keep the other team in the game (at the very least), no matter the opponent.

                  • How much football do you have to watch to know it's not a transitive game, Alby? Temple may actually turn out to be decent. They may even turn out to be the best team in the MAC. They still won't matter, though.

I know it's not transitive... but I had predicted, to Imran's disbelief, that Temple would put up a similar victory margin against UConn as Michigan did and Temple delivered... Michigan clearly has some issues and it's not at all hard to foresee that if Temple and Michigan played, it would be a competitive game, regardless of the fact that football isn't transitive. I don't think that's hard to believe.

As for not mattering... that has more to do with BCS structure than how the teams are on the field.

                      • So Temple's on a par with UMass? Way to go out on a limb there.

No. At least not in this case.

                        • Damn, what a finish. Not sure Auburn deserved that win, but I'll take it. Secondary was, once again, horrendous. We continue to kill ourselves with penalties. We can't buy a turnover. Thank the lord the officials caught the false snap on Clemson's first FG attempt in overtime. Don't think our defense would have kept them out of the end zone with a first down and Ellington in the game. How the hell did we manage to pull that one out?!?

                            • No kidding. Great call when it works.

One note on Herbstreit and Musberger from the Auburn-Clemson game that some of you should enjoy. At one point, Herbstreit made a comment along the lines of "remember how great Ronnie Brown was running the wildcat here, then later at Miami?" and Musberger chimed in his agreement. Brown never ran the wildcat at Auburn. Not a single snap of it. In fact, the wildcat was still largely stuck in high school when Brown was at Auburn. He left after 2004, and Gus Malzahn brought the wildcat to Arkansas, the SEC and major college football in 2006. Nice job, dumbasses.
