Shawn Horcoff is 31 and under contract for 5 more years @ $5.5 mil cap hit ($7M alone this year). What's he done this year? 20 pts in 53 games, and a VERY impressive MINUS 31. The best he has EVER done is get 53 pts in 82 games. What the **** were they thinking with this contract? It's one of the worst I've ever seen.

He's had the team two years now and he keeps using the excuse that he's not shaking things up because he's "evaluating the roster". Who is he fooling?

Oilers are the first team eliminated from the playoffs in the league, even before the Olympic break.

Why have they made NO moves at all? There are buyers. He'd be a fool to send away a single draft pick, but I suppose his hands are tied. There's a lot of terrible, terrible contracts weighing on the Oilers. Would be hard to move them...

I stand by my assertion that K-Lowe is and always has been an idiot.

It actually is amusing, but only to people who are not Oilers fans, I'm sure.

The Lowe/Tambellini problem is precisely that it's Lowe/Tambellini. The general consensus is Lowe is still pulling a lot of strings. And K-Lowe hasn't helped Tambellini by handcuffing him and giving him some of the worst contracts in hockey.

Its one of the offshoots of the salary cap era that it is tougher and tougher to dump players that underperform compared to their contract . It used to be that some rich team might take a big contract on one marginal player as part of a package to get someone else. Now the teams are almost all at the cap so contract dumping is an art all of itself.

While I won't use as much rhetoric as Asher it does appear that the Oil got caught up in their run to the finals a few years back and over-valued a whole bunch of guys. The result is a fair number of contracts that are unattractive--


Now, to be fair, this happens to a LOT of teams, almost everyone has an unattractive contract or two. The hope is that you also have a few guys that are playing like gangbusters while on a cheap contract so your overperformers and underperformers sort of balance out

I guess you can't stop the explosive offense of Minnesota...you can only hope to contain them. Luongo had no chance.

Since we had not discussed otherwise , I think everyone would have assumed we would have 3 rounds opf playoffs-- I cannot see how anyone would be fussed
