Well yes I do question their leadership. Since the cup final run of 04 they have not won a playoff series and at least a couple of their series were winnable. Now you have a team where the coach is consistently questioning their work ethic.

But change the captain? This is Jarome's team and now that he has awakened from his early season slump, his personal work and effort is obvious. So on a personal play level his leadership is obvious. But lately the secondary scoring of many of the rest has dissipated and the effort doesn't seem as good. Is that at all because of the captain? I don't know-- All I know is that no matter how well Iggy plays personally, the team he leads has consistently failed to step up and excel in the playoffs

I just don't think giving the "c" to anyone else would change the fact that Iggy would be considered the team leader.Pinning the "c" on someone else wouldn't make them a leader

    • Its a bit ironic-- Last night the Flames overall had an excellent effort against Anaheim and the result is a "loser point" due to the stellar efforts of Giguere. The Flames played the type of game I had hoped to see them play and end up with a loss. I guess in the long run these types of things even out so I am mostly pleased with the Flames over the last two games

      • I was pissed that Iginla was on the bench in the shootout. He's one of the hottest guys in the league right now, he scored with ~8 secs left in regulation to send it to overtime...and he couldn't shoot in the shootout?

        Dawes over Iginla? WTF?

        • Guys

did you folks see the clip where Dion Phaneufs 15 year old brother rubs out Hayley Wickenhesier against the boards and then she tries to mug the kid. They mentioned it to Dion during an interview and he just started to laugh. TSN had a clip but I don't have the time to go back and find it again

            • Damn! I was too late checking on the Caps starter and didn't get Varlamov off the bench.

                • Oilers' Hemsky to have shoulder surgery, out for season
PUBLISHED November 27, 2009 ... Edmonton Oilers forward Ales Hemsky will undergo surgery to repair his left shoulder, and general manager Steve Tambellini said he'll miss the rest of the season. Hemsky, 26, has played in 22 games this season, scoring 7 goals and adding 15 assists for 22 points. He left Wednesday's game against Los Angeles after being driven into the boards by the Kings' Michal Handzus.
                  That's going to hurt.

Are you aware of any reason for relatively high incidence of what my wife referred to as "cheesy porn mustaches" on the Oilers. It was the first thing she noticed and it got me wondering if this wasn't some sort of conscious ironic symbol against some of the Edmonton haters/ stereotypes out there.

                        • The Flames?

They did not "deserve" the win in Detroit. They were outplayed soundly and only Kipper's play and some favorable calls allowed them the win. The only good thing I can say is that they played ok in the third period.

Against Columbus the Flames were much better and helped earn the Macklebackup a welcome win. The Flames were actually very good in the 1st and 3rd periods but faster than you can say "defensive zone breakdown" they were giving up chance after chance in the second. The game was encouraging because

                          1. Coming back in the 3rd period on the second night of a back to back
                          2. Macklebackup let in one weaky but was pretty solid otherwise
                          3. Jokinen scored and is noticably better these days
                          4. The second line with Moss is still chugging along despite the absence of Moss

So while I am concerned about how Detroit dominated so much, overall I think the Flames are rounding into a team that most teams in the West better have respect for

                          Looking at other teams

Edmonton? Wow they can look bad!! I know any team can on a given night but I expected an big effort after they gave up a SHORTHANDED goal with a 1:24 left to blow the San Jose game.

Chicago? This team is/should be a force this year. They have periods where they are so freaking dominant. Hell even when they lose you are still left with thoughts of how good they are

Montreal? I keep getting surprised when they manage to get points against good teams. I didn't think they were that good a team to start and since then they have lost some key folks to injury but they are managing to stay in games.

                            • Good to know, I saw them too and kinda thought the same thoughts as Mr and Mrs Flubber.

Glad to think they were for a purpose and equally glad they should be gone for December.

On another note, the more I look at shutouts, the more it seems a meaningless and lucky stat....last year in one of the pools someone (snoopy?) mistakenly put in both GAA and Save% for goalies (in addition to wins and shutouts), which gave them too many stats, and at the start of this season, someone else, I don't recall who, suggested we use GAA instead of shutouts. I didn't say anything at the time but next year I think this is a change that should be made.

In the Auction league there have been as many ties (16) in the shutout category as wins and losses combined (16). In the draft league there have almost been twice as many ties (30) as wins and losses combined (18).

It seems to me that GAA would at least result in a little more then luck.

                              • I like the shutout stat because it's a wildcard. The GAA/sv% correlate so much (usually) that they're frequently just redundant.
