Ohh-- just started my rankings-- at the .1 second mark I had my # 1 guy, BY .5 seconds I had decided on 2 and 3-- At 5 minutes I have selected a number of "don't draft " guys but hell its tough picking number 4. Last year it was Brodeur in our draft followed by Iggy and heatley-- hmmmmmm

Just signed up for the league, under Blaine's Bruisers though to keep my teams sounding familiar over my leagues. Really starting to look forward to getting drafting now.

Three days to the beginning of the draft.

I propose we go with this:

Oh and did we set any BAPAY rules?

How about something simple like

A. The draft timer is turned off from 10PM to 8AM Eastern time. Night owls should feel free to continue with picks during this period, but no one will be penalised for sleeping.

1. 12 hours for the first 3 rounds
2. 6 hours thereafter
3. If a person has been BAPAYed the previous round and has not been in contact since, they are BAPAYed immediatedly upon their turn arising until they are sighted again
4. BAPAY to be done as a intelligent BAPAY-- use the list strictly except for the obvious PIM anomolies. best player is picked to fill any available starters roles first. If all starters are picked its just BAPAY all the way.

4a. Intelligent extends beyond what is strictly on the list. Common sense and the rule of the reasonable should be used. Ex: towards the end of the draft there are likely to be a lot of goalies, rookies, and defencemen in relatively high positions who have not been drafted; a player should not be loaded up with goalies and rookies on his bench.

4b. Players unavailable should not be drafted as BAPAYs. Ex: Jagr, Radulov, Emery from years past.

5. Any manager can BAPAY by posting the pick and starting the clock for the next player. The BAPAYed manager can always change the pick within * hours (thoughts on this?)

6. Any manager who has been BAPAYed may change the BAPAY chosen player for another available, undrafted player during the period up to and including the time the draft returns to that manager for his/her immediately following draft choice. Ex: you may change your 6th (BAPAYed) draft choice any time prior to or when you make your 7th draft choice.

--- plus use some common sense/discretion and not Bapay immediatedly a person if the draft suddenly jumped through 6 managers unexpectedly and their turn arose at 1 a.m. their local or if they are away for a reasonable period and have specified when they will be back-- On the contrary side if the pick is with the person that drafts before me for several hours, I should give my pick and an alternate to someone else if I know I will be offline- I should be BAPAYed in that situation

I think those rules are relatively generous. if anyone wants to amend them please do so-- I was just thinking that we want to keep things moving and am not wedded to any of the times or rules that much . Our reality in the past was that most players were very quick and more than made up for the people that had to be slower. I just like to have rules so if there is any question during the drafts there is no reason for some of the strong personalities to clash.

Oh and I noticed the football bunch did a lot of sending their picks to other people to keep the draft moving-- I think we should encourage that

I inserted the timer shut off period so people do not get BAPAYed at 6AM, as well as the opportunity to change a BAPAYed pick.

Any objections? Refinements?

As it stands, I regard the extra bench spot to be a dead issue. Eight votes, and only three in favour of a rule change.

It looks like we will have two fewer teams than last year. 12 is a nice number.

Might want to make it from 10pm to 10am EST.

It's kind of unfair to the BC people for the timer to start ticking away at 5am?

Hell, I'm not even up at 8am EST and I'm on the east coast.

We can always shrink the time period if we get close to season launch and need to progress. I think we'll be fine though.

There you two go, arguing again and unable to agree....wait, you mean you had an intelligent discussion of rules agreed to change them in a reasonable manner? Maybe we need to convince BK to sign up, could be a dull year otherwise!

Oh, and thank you both.....rules look good to me (or rather if they look good to both NYE and Asher.....who am I to find fault ).
