  • The flipside to that, Ozzy, is that they turned Granderson (and E. Jackson) into some other players. Much depends on how they end up doing.

As for Damon... well, 1/$8 is probably about right. At that price, I wish the Yanks had managed to keep him. Apparently they offered 1/$6 (Cashman also claims an earlier-in-the-offseason 2/$14 offer).

p.s. Chan Ho Park to the Yankees for $1.2. Meh.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

After passing up an earlier offer of $3M from the Phils because he wanted to start. Note to Park: you won't be starting for the Yankees.

      • Seattle appears poised to make a run for it, very strong pitching and now they got Ichiro and Chone leading off.

and we need people for our fantasy league, so sign up and play, please

I certainly hope not! Only in the event of catastrophe should he even be considered. The rotational depth chart should be CC-Burnett-Javy-Pettitte-Joba-Hughes-Aceves-Gaudin. After that, maybe you get down to Park, in which case you're probably screwed.

Seattle should be very good at preventing runs, provided health from Hernandez and Lee (after which their rotation is pretty sketchy, no?). If those two guys start ~33 games apiece, Seattle could win the division. That's a nasty 1-2 punch. I'm not sold on their offense, though it should certainly be better than last year.

          • Posted this in the Fantasy thread, but has big implications on the Twins' season as well:

Twins reliever Joe Nathan has been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right elbow, leaving the team without a proven closer less than a month from Opening Day, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

Nathan has a torn ulnar collateral ligament and will decide whether to have surgery within two weeks, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reported.

Surgery would likely cost Nathan all of 2010.

              • Woah, best wishes for Ryan Westmoreland (a top Red Sox prospect). Brain surgery upcoming, which is pretty serious **** no matter what.

                • Damn I was watching the first few innings of the Sox-Yanks game last night, but was too exhausted to make it out of the 4th inning. Missed the Sox come back.
