  • Yeah... you get to laugh. Matt Ryan looks like he has a much better shot at the HOF than Vick ever did.

    • What about the chances for Grossmen/Orton

      • Orton has been pretty solid since Week 3. While I make no HOF claims, neither should Atlanta. Keep in mind that Matt Ryan's big day was only made possible by a vanilla pass defense that almost never blitzed him. Kudos to the Atlanta line for handling the Bears front four nicely, but frankly, almost any QB in the league could have picked the Bears' depleted secondary apart with that much time. And most would have found the end zone and put the game out of reach early.

Don't get me wrong -- I think this kid is fantastic. But the Bears, missing their top 3 DBs, deserve a strong assist for giving him the opportunity to make all those fine throws without any noticeable pressure.

          • Asked Monday about a potential decision on Adam Jones, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell indicated that discipline will be handed down.

"It is a privilege to play in the National Football League," Goodell said. "I believe Adam understands what’s expected of him. I am disappointed to hear that he was involved in something last week. He knows he is running out of rope. And if he’s not going to behave responsibly and reflect positively on the NFL, the Cowboys and himself, then he won’t play in the NFL."

I wonder if Roger is taking into account the two draft picks the Cowboys will get if he suspends Pacman.

Yes, but that's what the Bears do. They don't blitz because their linebackers are solid in coverage, and they trust their defensive linemen to get pressure. Normally, this works, and it didn't work against Ryan.

                  • When they blitzed, Briggs got in the backfield fine... they just didn't do it enough.

I certainly don't blame the DBs for this, except for the final play. I think I could have defended that pass better than the Bears did... it's not that hard to keep a guy in bounds and make sure the guy receiving the pass is not one of the sideline guys, especially when there is a 6 second time limit (ie, you don't have to worry too much about anything in front of the 40 yard line, and don't have to worry about Ryan having very long to move around). They should've managed that, and didn't. I don't know if it's the personnel or the coaching staff, but at some point the latter has to take the blame.

                    • Rookie QB at home, defensive backfield in shambles. They needed to shake the guy up. You'd think they'd have learned something after letting the likes of Griese carve them up.

They blitzed Manning; they blitzed McNabb. And they won -- against much better teams.

Like I said, you would think they'd learn. I can't wait to see them get fried by the Frerotte-Berrian combination next week.

                      • If we have Tillman 100%, Frerotte-Berrian will yield 14 points... for us. (Heck, we should've had at least one and probably two INT-TDs this week; Mike Brown of 2005-6 would never have dropped those passes.) If we don't have a secondary next week ...

                        • Roddy White was schooling Tillman before the injury yesterday, and Berrian will be -- motivated. He's pretty good at route adjustments. I'm pretty concerned, in a resigned, fatalistic sort of way.

                          • Frerotte isn't any good, though, so I really expect Tillman (if 100%) to go to the house on him at least once if not twice.

                            If he's not 100%, though ...

                            • White is a better WR than Berrian, though... so there is that.

                              • It just got more interesting. Felix Jones is out for a few weeks. Losing was the least bad thing about that game for the Cowboys.
