That wasn't a troll, but an outburst of happiness and... I don't know what else. I can't explain my feelings at that exact moment.
I was 11 years old when Marco's goal marked a defeat for us in the final of Euro-1988. It was a huge upset for me and all Soviet people. We had a great team, a legendary team, but Holland outplayed us TOTALY in the final, despite we defeated them at the group stage, iirc.
So, hell yeah - that was for 1988!
But it's not a troll, but a tribute for a well-respected opponent. I really, really respect Holland (and esp. Marco van Basten) since that final of 1988. That's why I was so happy (and still am) after we outplayed them now.

    • Interesting:

Australia's multicultural and multilingual broadcaster. Includes news, sport, entertainment, documentary, film, food, radio and television schedule with program information.

Btw, Russian players expressed their admiration for van Basten after he visited Russian dressing room and congratulated them.

Marco is the great man and true sportsman

One needs a really big heart and balls to do that (compare that with McLaren sh!ttty behavior wrt Russians after his team lost in Moscow )

You remember correctly. Van Basten didn't play in that game, he was a substitute. After the loss he was brought in the next game against England, scored three goals and the rest is history...

Btw, a late congrats to the Russians, you played the best football I have seen this tournament, even better I think than our game against Italy I am rooting for Russia from now on.

Which leaves me with the point that the foundation of your succes comes from Zenith. Two Dutch coaches are making you the champions of Europe...
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
          Once again...

Ahh, now we know what really caused the fall of the Soviet Union.

Was it just me and Russian television? I have not seen how it's transformed from 1:1 to 2:2. It was a veryyyyyy long comercial break.

                        • Yeah, there was a massive thunderstorm over Vienna, causing power outages.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Sh!t. They had to translate it from the moment they stopped.
The translation of of this semi was totally screwed and weather is not an excuse.

                              • I have not seen the most part of the 2nd half, so I really can't say anything about it. I know Germany won it, but I need to watch a tommorow replay.

Why the **** they still relly on analog signal? I regret I watched the match on tv, not Internet. And power failure is a crappy excuse for a such an event as Euro semi.
****, to translate the match in Internet live, you really don't need a nuclear power station, but just a digital camera or a phone and a couple of duracells.
