I'm sorry, what sport is this again? We're too busy playing real sports in Canada. Only children play soccer. They usually graduate to hockey, a man's sport.

And was this the world cup? I thought it was the euro. Are they different?

You can't qaulify for Euro for obvious reason - Canada is not in Europe, moron.

I never made the claim that Canada could or would qualify for the Euro, or anywhere close to that. That would make you the moron.

You can't qualify for Euro, but you can qualify for the World Cup. So, my message was that Canada can't play football. So, when a Canadian is laughing about performance of a bronze medalist of Euro-2008 - I laugh even louder, 'cause you guys TOTALY suck in this sport. You can't even qualify for a big international tournament.

I was questioning because this is a Euro thread and here you are talking about the World Cup. I thought I'd ask to ensure they're not the same thing.

After all, the World Cup (of Hockey) used to be called the Canada Cup and you didn't find that stupid, now did you...

Canada doesn't even try at soccer, so you can say we suck all we want. No one here cares. The only people who watch soccer here are ferreners who are cheering for (and playing for) the motherland. IIRC there's one decent Canadian soccer player, born and raised in Canada, but he plays for England -- why? Because no one here cares.

Mexico? What did Mexico ever achieve in football, byond quarter final at their home world cup?
I see them only a tad before the USA and certainly not above other South American nations that from time to time play decent football: Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay.

                  • No... US > Mexico .

The US tends to beat the Mexicans away from Azteca more than enough to earn that. And finished first in CONCACAF in the last WC qualifier.

                    • Once again.... Russia You guys should be proud, the semifinal is a very good achievement. And while Spain also outplayed you yesterday, I wouldn't say this was an embarrassing game like the first one was, Spain just played really well. Pavlyuchenko scored 4 goals overall, Arshavin is likely on his way to Barca and I think that Zhirkov and Akinfeev should also be getting offers from serious European clubs.

And most important of all, Russia was actually nice to watch, so well done.

I still remember that volley by Maxi Rodriguez in ET that knocked them out.

Mexico have been awful for the past couple of years under Hugo Sanchez though.

Eriksson should at least make them hard to beat again.

                              • I wouldn't necessarily call them "superb" (though they did obviously do better than the US). They beat Iran (3-1), tied Angola (0-0), and lost to Portugal (2-1).

                                Then they played Argentina tough.
