  • Tigers have won 16 out of 20 and are back to .500. I kept telling everyone to wait for the warm weather for the Tigers to click.

    • Above .500 now, 41-40. They'll probably have to go 50-31 the rest of the way to win the division. That's a pretty tall order. They may have taken too long to warm up.

      • Yeah... it'll be an interesting NL Central race. If Tampa wasn't doing so good in the East, maybe they could look at a WC. But the division looks to be their best bet.

At least they are only 4.5 back. Not insurmountable at all.

        • Only four of the fourteen AL teams are below .500, while ten of sixteen NL teams are under .500.

          • Only two AL teams (Cleveland and Toronto) have losing records in interleague play; one other team (Seattle) is at the break-even point.

By contrast, only three NL teams have winning records in interleague play: Cincinnati (9-6), New York (9-6), and Atlanta (8-7).

            • Well how about that. Two mediocre NY teams play 4 games, and each win 2. By runs, it was 20-19, IIRC.

Matsui may need knee surgery. Brett Gardner (Juan Pierre 2.0) has been called up. I hope for good things, but overall, meh. The OF is now a mix of Melky, (hurting)Damon, teh Ghost of Bobby Abreu and Gardner. Phil Hughes is still 2 weeks away from game action. Ian Kennedy is in A ball. Sidney ****ing Ponson is going to get another start...

It's time. Bonds. Barry Bonds. No trading prospects in desperation. Sign up the guy who can be had for "just" money (and no doubt some ugly PR consequences too).

p.s. Nice to see David Roberston get called up. His minor league numbers are ridiculous. We'll see if they translate.

Only if you assume Chicago will go 45-36 or Minnesota will 47-35 at the time you wrote this. (now it would be Tigers 49-31, Chicago 44-36, Minnesota 47-34)

                • I think that is a reasonable estimate for Chicago.

                  • Well I'm gonna personally root for the Rays taking the east and Chicago or Detroit picking up the wild card.

How great would it be to see October without either Boston or New York?

Eastern Seaboard Progamming Network would have to close shop for October, or be relegated to covering football, (pats, giants, skins and jets only of course)

I can just about feel your inferiority complex all way down here

Well, aside from the fact that it is highly unlikely that Boston won't win the East or WC the way they have been playing in the first half of the season .

I like Boston better than the White Sox anyway. I'd rather root for the Twinkies.

How many people think that ESPN sometimes focuses more on east coast teams more than others.

I'll freely admit an inferiority complex if a lot of people think ESPN is totally balanced in terms of coverage and editorial content.
