Rage? Why? It's pretty obvious that this sort of contact goes on between teams and potential free agents and their representatives, all the time. The Bears are just lucky beneficiaries of Goodell's get-tough stance, and the 49ers were in the way.
Remember when the Bears signed Muhsin Muhammed one minute after the start of the free agency period a few years back? No way does that happen without some technically-illegal early contact.
The 49ers were trying to decide between trading for Briggs and waiting for his free agency, and got caught phoning Rosenhaus (on trade deadline day BTW) to talk contracts. They were mostly guilty of being stupid - and a bit unlucky.
This will doubtless cause other NFL teams to be a little more careful about their cheating techniques. More amusing than anything.
