    • NWIH are the Giants back in the Superbowl next year.

My silly, crazy Superbowl pick without knowing anything about the offseason yet:
      Colts 31, Seahawks 14

      My crazy sleeper ridiculous pick:
      Texans 21, Cardinals 13

I think my crazy sleeper pick is a little bit too ridiculous.

Seems like some revisionist history. The Rams were the patriots before the patriots, just like the other teams that win a superbowl and go back to another almost immediately and are perceived as arrogant and loathed (Cowboys, etc)

And now we'll see what comes out about the spying before that game. ...

It's an even year, so as with recent Bears history, this will be:

              Bears 27, Steelers 14

              • I assume at least 2 of the 3 Bears touchdowns are defensive, and at least one of the Steelers touchdowns is a pick six?

                • As long as we're going with ridiculous picks: Bears 24, Colts 20, with the winning pass for TD from Orton in the closing minutes.

btw, the '85 Bears loss had more to do with the extreme heat on the field in Miami than the team on the other side of the ball.

                  • Well, it did kind of help that they had more or less the greatest QB ever on their side.

Handful? I guess it's true, when compared to the number of people who clearly know what's going on but denied it to try to take shots, they did only complain about a handful.

In this case the "media" was the BOSTON media! It was run by a Boston newspaper, probably under the belief that it'd fire up the Pats.

Heh. That's just funny. Perhaps you should read the Boston media at some point. Even beyond the initial report, the problem was that it was accepted outright and discussed as fact when the story (as written, there may be facts there but there certainly wasn't evidence presented thus far) was nothing but reheated rumor.

But if it had been the Steelers or Colts it wouldn't have been (no one gives a damn about the Cards... not even in Arizona).

Not so sure about that...is Jimmy Johnson being subpoenaed? Parcells? If we're so concerned about the integrity of the game and making sure everybody plays by the rules, it certainly has sounded like they have some stories to tell. (I'd include Steve Young, but his holiness has clearly blocked any memory of the 49ers cheating on the salary cap with his contract.) You won't see them going to congress because the much discussed 'integrity of the game' is not what this is all about. How quickly did the Boston newspaper report about noise being pumped into the RCA dome disappear? It was basically on the same level as the story about the Rams practice, but that one even bothered to name its source.

                      For destroying the tapes.

Why do they want to talk to Tom Brady about destroying tapes again? Or anybody on the Pats, for that matter?

It was true for a while. But it also didn't take long for people to start floating the idea that the game was rigged for exactly the reason you mentioned...not just in St. Louis either. Like I said, I'm not claiming it was a large number of people at the time, but the 'anybody but the Pats' crap started way back then. Fans of other teams that didn't buy that particularly load of crap may not have noticed, but they also weren't the targets so that's not unexpected.

The fact that even reismark, someone rooting for the Pats pegged it as after the third SB win, says something.

Why in the Hell would there be a bandwagon for hating a team that pulled off one of the biggest upsets in SB history, against a seemingly unstoppable team with an arrogant as Hell coach (stop me when you see the similarities )? I mean that's like saying a bandwagon of hatred is building up against the Giants for beating the Pats in this SB.
Good point. Maybe I should start a rumor that the game was rigged to take some heat off the NFL. I mean, how could such a massive underdog pull off an upset like that? It would be as much evidence as was given to justify the beginnings of the 'Pats are cheaters' idea. Maybe I can get a Boston tabloid to run with it.

True to an extent, but the level of malicious glee taken by some sources indicates that's not the whole story.

Where exactly was it discussed "as fact"? Everywhere I read it, people were saying it was merely allegations and folks were laughing at Kurt Warner for going ballistic.

If there was any concrete proof of Johnson or Parcells engaged in wrong doing (especially after the NFL put its foot down and warned everyone), perhaps you'd see more stuff on them. This, on the hand, was the Pats caught red handed after being told not to do so.

IIRC, the noise into the RCA dome was investigated by the NFL and found not to be the case.

Why do they want to talk to Tom Brady about destroying tapes again? Or anybody on the Pats, for that matter?

Who says they are talking to Brady? IIRC, only Goodell is going down to Washington.

You are insane. Seriously. I wonder if you think an "anybody but the Giants" club is starting up as we speak?

How many people were saying the game was "rigged"? What, a handful of folks? I'm hearing Pats fans also say the NFL rigged this SB so that they wouldn't win it. You people are nuts!

And you wonder why people end up hating the Patriots? It's really beacuse of fans like yourself!

Sorry, would you prefer 'herd' then? 'Groupthink'? The bandwagon is for the idea, not a team. Feel free to apply whatever label you'd like.

And every Pats game I watched in the early 90's says shove it up your ass.

And after 3 seconds spent saying it was allegations, the next half hour was spent discussing whether Belichick should be suspended for a year or they should just take away the Rams superbowl completely. Come on, you know how psychology and spin works, you're not stupid.

Yes, much the same way the Rams thing and all the other rumors that have been parrotted were investigated by the NFL and found not to be the case.
