I probably would have said that too, even if the Patriots had won 17-14 or something. The Patriots were a tiny bit superior in the regular season, with an average margin of victory of 20 points to the Bears' 16. However, you have to consider that you'd probably rather try to make up 20 points on the Patriots than 16 on the Bears. Facing possibly the greatest defense ever, with possibly the greatest tailback ever running out the clock, 16 points is basically infinite. I'd say the Patriots were only superior because they never lost.
Playoffs, though, are an entirely different story. No team that played the Bears had a chance at any point in any game. The Patriots gave all three of their opponents chances, and regardless of whether or not someone finally took advantage of it, they're inferior to the Bears."You're the biggest user of hindsight that I've ever known.
