Twente will need a lot of money to acquire this Wilshire.

    • Jozy Altidore to Villareal for $12 million.

From what I've seen, he's the American player of his generation with the most promise. Eventually, he could be a force.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

      • Good price for Jozy. New York will REALLY miss him though .

        • Scratch the $12 million. Insert $10 million instead.

I don't know what his share is of that.

“I chose to be there because it is a very good league,” Altidore said. “To me, I think it is second only to the Premier League. It has a lot of respect and I like the way they play the game there. I think it will be a good place for me to further develop my game.”

He needs to work on his PR.

I've seen some of his goals, he's a good finisher, strong and fast too for his age. We'll see how he does against the meaner defences in La Liga though. He'll go straight on loan to Recreativo de Huelva to gain experience, but at least he'll get plenty of playing time.

              • Well now...

Chelsea have confirmed Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari as their new manager.

                • Interesting. Maybe Chelsea will start playing some attractive football next season.

                  • Sometimes CONCACAF amuses me... the US won 8-0 against Barbados in the WC qualifier. Do they even need to play the 2nd leg?

                    • Oh dear. the US are so bad at the moment that even the abysmal England strolled past them in a friendly.

                      • Then again, the same US (well, adding Donovan and a few others) played to a 0-0 result against #1 Argentina.

                        • Just to update on the Twente-McLaren rumours: while he's technically still in the running that deal now seems to be off. The latest addition to the rumor mill is Avram Grant -- clearly our fan base hasn't gotten any less ambitious from this setback, though I suspect the Englishmen here won't consider it much of an improvement either (I have to say I'm less than convinced about Grant myself.)

They better get someone quick though, with those early CL qualifiers to play, Twente's preparation for the next season starts in a few weeks already...

(Now let's hope you limeys are as wrong about him as you were about Wilkshire )
