    • SECAUCUS, N.J. -- The Chicago Bulls won the NBA's draft lottery Tuesday night, giving them the right to choose between star freshmen Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose.

Coming off a miserable season and still without a coach, the Bulls vaulted from the No. 9 spot, where they had just a 1.7 percent chance of landing the top choice.

They will almost certainly choose between Beasley, the Kansas State forward who averaged 26.5 points and an NCAA-best 12.5 rebounds, or Rose, the point guard who carried Memphis within minutes of the national title.

The Miami Heat, who had a 25 percent chance of landing the top pick thanks to their NBA-worst 15-67 record, fell to second. The Minnesota Timberwolves will go third.

The NBA draft will be held June 26 in New York.

Chicago came into the season with high expectations after reaching the Eastern Conference semifinals last season. But the Bulls never recovered from a dismal start and finished 33-49. They fired coach Scott Skiles on Christmas Eve and have already decided not to retain interim coach Jim Boylan.

The rest of the lottery draft order: Seattle, Memphis, New York, the Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee, Charlotte, New Jersey, Indiana, Sacramento, Portland and Golden State.

          • Amazing.

Bulls gotta go with Rose. A real NBA guard!
            And a hometown guy btw..

Like most pro sports, it's a copycat league. Deron Williams, Chris Paul, J. Jack, Brandon Roy... the list goes on. Point guards are in fashion for a reason. And Paxson is a guard himself. He can posture all he wants about "doing his homework" but trust me, this decision is already made.

Now if they can just keep him off motorcycles...

            • Rose The perfect storm there, really... the Bulls need a PG and a scorer, Rose can do both - and he's the hometown guy to boot!

              • Yeah, knowing it was the ole 1.7%, I didn't even bother watching, but then heard the teaser on the evening news.

Great news. If the NBA can rig the draft for the KNICKS why shouldn't they do it for DA BULLS. Let's hope we get a similarly great player out of it like they did.

Yes, as of now ROSE seems to be the nobrainer pick.

It is funny, that before we the draft most of the talking heads were saying that ROSE was the slam dunk pick if the Bulls got lucky. Figuring 1.7%, no chance. But this morning, some of the same guys were backing off and now offering alternatives. DOH.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

                • Beasley would certainly be interesting also, but I think the Bulls already have too many PF-types... and no way he plays Center in the NBA.

My vote is for the Bulls to draft Rose and then sign the first 7'1" or taller person Paxson sees.

                  • I wish there was a concensus can't miss player like LeBron out there, but Rose does seem like a nobrainer from the Bulls perspective. A large scoring point guard would really help the team.

So let's hope Pax gets it right and doesn't use the pick to sign some tall player that doesn't make it in the NBA

                    • Now, now, Chandler is doing fine now that he's not on the Bulls... it's not "Doesn't make it in the NBA" but "Doesn't make it until the Bulls give up on him".

                      • Chandler is the same guy he always was -- just a year older and playing with a real point guard.

The same thing can happen for Tyrus Thomas if the Bulls grab Rose.

Drafting Beasley just creates a logjam at power forward, with no one to get them the ball.

And it was my point as well.

The last thing the Bulls need is to emulate Matt Millen and draft a third straight power forward.

                              • Pistons 103, Celtics 97.

Higher scoring game than I would have thought. But Detroit got that split!

If the Celtics still can't win on the road, they're done.
