Well here is what it boils down to. You have the OPINION that this is what they are saying. Koy and I are of the opinion that they are saying "Here is your chance to hold us to no points.". It's all a matter of perspective.

Bull****. You don't really believe that, do you?

How much pride do you get from stopping Cassel and Eckel again?

Plenty. It's something to build on. That's why you play hard at the end even if you are getting blown out, it at least gives you something, regardless of how minor.

Kicking a FG is the 'smart' thing points wise to do, and is the correct thing to do; going for it on 4th is just saying to the other team "haha, you can't even stop us on 4th down".

Yep. It's expressly trying to humiliate the other team. It's not to score less or any bull**** answer like that. It's to rub their faces in it.

I think he was not trying to score. I don't think he was trying not to score. It was a case of saying that either scoring or giving the ball back without scoring would have been acceptable, though obviously one is preferred.

You don't really believe the Pats couldn't have hung 60 or 70 on the Bills if they had wanted to, do you?

Pretty much. Maybe Belichick should send a runner over to the opposing locker room at halftime and ask each coach how they'd prefer to be beaten. Would they like to show the world that they can fight the NE backups to a draw or do they want another shot at the varsity squad?

Nah, some sock puppet on ESPN would probably claim that was rubbing their faces in it or something....

Yeah... but you two are wrong .

They are rubbing it in the opponents' face. As snoopy said, Belichick hasn't done this stuff before (and he's had the oppertunity to in prior years, he just hasn't done it). He's pissed at the NFL for the videotape thing and is taking it out on the league.

            • I don't remember ever having said that, Imran. I didn't think about it before this year much, to be honest

Don - of course it's my opinion. We're not arguing cold hard facts, so "in my opinion" is rather, umm, meaningless?

              • Besides, if they went for it on 4th down to "score less points" why didn't they just, umm, kneel down the ball? Or, punt it? Both give less points than either a FG or going for it and trying to make it ... that to me is not opinion, it's just logic.

                • Well you said that "Belichek in the past has not done this" refering to going for it on 4th down late in the game when its wrapped up already.

                  • I meant "in the past (season) he has not chosen to play conservatively and run or short pass the ball with backup players in the game late in the game with a huge lead". Perhaps it's confused by the packers reference... it's monday

                    • To me the Patriots putting up points in a game that seems won, is similiar to a judge pronouncing a sentence then dropping the gavel.

I say if the other team is trying to win and would certainly try to catch the Patriots, then the Patriots have little choice.

Put the mudder schmuckers down fer the count.

                      Go Pats

Go everyone else trying to catch 'em!!

That is my opinion and well, it only counts in the New England area and in Trolldom

In the past he hasn't really had the opportunity. That was always the knock on the Pats, why they weren't considered a great team or a dynasty...they won, but they didn't dominate. It was all lucky bounces and bad refs. Now they're dominating and people are complaining because of that. Just can't win...and you wonder why they keep playing the 'no respect' card.

Not that I'd blame him for getting pissed at the league and going all Sherman's March on them...at a Pats fan, I might even kinda like it. I just don't really think that's what he's doing for the most part. If he was then he'd be kicking those field goals, there would be even bigger victory margins, and you wouldn't be seeing the 2nd string fullback playing the entire 4th quarter. Now, maybe when the Jets come to Foxborough and he orders a third digit added to the Gillette scoreboard, that might be different...

For like ONE YEAR! Jeez-Louise. I can't think of a single person who said it was all lucky bounces and bad refs for the 3rd SB year.

And you wonder why the rest of us hate Pats fans .

                            • A lot of them live in Indy, Carolina, and Philly. Trust me, there are quite a few of them...you probably don't notice because it isn't your team.

(We won't even talk about the guy in St. Louis who still has a whole website devoted to how the NFL handed that game to the Pats...)
