I have to disagree about the RB. Take away his TD run and he still averaged 4.4 per carry.
Of course, as always, he got it a whole 11 carries.
The thing is, if it was a stud QB like Favre or Romo, that might be acceptable. To say nothing of having a, for instance again, Romo and 2 RB's alternating.
Put the blame were it belongs, just as I've maintained all year. The guy calling the plays is a moron.
You talk about picking your defense apart. Fine, keep the other team's offense off the field. Run the ball some, at least. Blame Benson. That's ridiculous. I hope the Bears management sees it that way and let's him escape.

The best kept secret in the NFL is that the Steelers' O-Line is putrid. The talking heads may stick with the 2004 script of the Steelers' dominant O-Line, but the truth is that they're awful. They gave up 7 sacks tonight (the Jets had 9 all year prior to today), and the RBs couldn't even muster 100 yards rushing (the dreadful Redskins, with three back-ups starting on their O-Line, managed to gain over 200 yards on the ground)

The Bears' best shot at continuing success with the players they have at QB and RB is to have a kickass O-line. That's the real source of the Bears' problems this year. They have the oldest line in the league, and it really shows.

Listen, Sloww, I know you're the last remaining Benson apologist, and I appreciate your point of view. I was among those who thought, at the time, he was a solid pick at #4 overall. His Texas career is a total highlight reel. But I've watched every carry he's had in the NFL, and I just don't think he's a stud back on this level -- for very specific reasons.

Since he came into the league, Benson put on weight and lost his burst. All the following things happen far too often -- He drops passes, is a key 1/2-step slow in picking up the blitz, and goes down on first contact. He's a slasher, and thus poorly matched to the Bears' read-and-react blocking scheme, which requires good vision and cutback ability for success. This heftier version of Benson just isn't nifty enough to make those moves.

Playcalling? Predictable. O-line? Below average. But Benson has done nothing to overcome it. Look, he's the unquestioned starter on a run-based team and yet is only 18th in the NFL. In fact, at least 6 of the players with more yards have missed at least one game, and a couple are from RBBC teams.

I want like hell for the kid to succeed. But there's no sugar-coating it -- his first year as a starter has been a disaster.

Benson had 177 rushes in the first 9 games. That's 19.7 rushes per game -- on pace for 315 attempts in 16 games.

Only 5 of the 17 people ahead of him have more attempts.
