Well, the Bears were at least entertaining to watch as their slim playoff hopes got flushed by Seattle today. Hasselbeck just picked them apart, pretty much exactly like Manning did last February.
I think the window of opportunity has closed for this team. The league has learned how to attack the cover-2. It takes patience and execution, but a good team can just dink it up the field with slants, flat passes and draws. Hillenmeyer leaves, you run. Hillenmeyer stays, you pass. If you can protect the ball (no turnovers), you can methodically beat the cover-2.
As a consequence, you need a kickass offense to balance the lack of dominance on defense. But the Bears are a QB and RB -- not to mention, at least two quality linemen -- away from that.
