    This is funny.

    'Champion' cannot be debated.

    'Best Team' can always be debated.

    Nowhere in the definition of Champion does it say anything about 'Best Team'.

      I can agree with this. But winning the Championship does not mean you were the 'Best'. It mearly means you were the Champion.

        Donegeal is right, and y'all are just being belligerent because you want to have the oh-so-popular attitude that only one game counts.

        If the best team wins the Super Bowl every year, why have the playoffs at all? The whole point of the playoffs is that any one of the teams has a chance, whether it's a dominant team like the 2004 Patriots or a crappy team like that Cardinals team that went 9-7 on the easiest schedule in league history.

        What happened to "Any Given Sunday?" Is it actually just "Any Given Sunday, except for playoff games, in which the best team will win because the team that wins is the best and we love circular logic?"

          But it's not one game. If you go undefeated in one division, it's not the accomplishment of doing it in another. Parity, we've moved towards; but strength of division will continue. Argue if you want, but NFC East is a prime example of a traditionally stronger division. Who is in the Pats division? Who do they play the rest of the year? No one of note? Send them to the NFC East, and then we can talk even more.

            In one of my fantasy leagues, I'm leading in total scoring by 73 points -- 8 pts/game better than the closest competitor.

            I've had injuries, unlucky matchups, blah blah. I'm 5-4, fighting for a playoff spot.

            Q: Is mine the best team?
            A: We won't know until after Week 16.

            We can debate until then. But after the playoffs, there is no debate.

                The playoffs are intended to determine the best team. The winner of the Super Bowl is the best team by definition. You show your quality by action, not subjective thought.

                If you're the best, then you show it by winning the Super Bowl. Case closed.

                    Odd. Frankly, I've come to expect better insight from you, Jag. That's a pretty clueless interpretation of the post -- although you can make a case that FF itself is pretty arbitrary in that respect.

                    The whole point is exactly the opposite: That the season's best team is determined by which one makes the playoffs and wins. The champ.

                    Secondary point: That the question is open for debate and analysis ("Hey, I've got the most wins" vs "FU, I've outscored everybody") until that point.

                        It's all arbitrary anyhow, isn't it? If I have a college team that goes 5-6, and loses those 6 games to the teams generally considered the 6 best teams in college football each by a single point, and the 5 wins are all blowout wins by 30+ over previously highly ranked teams, by some definition I'd be the best team, right? Yet somehow I don't think anyone would actually argue that (who wasn't from my school anyway)...

                          No. You guys are missing the point. A playoff and Super Bowl is not intented to determine who is the 'best', its there to determine the Champion precisely because 'best' is subjective. The two terms are not synonymous.
