    That's a possibility that has crossed my mind watching some of the vets play lately. If that's the case, it will play out sooner rather than later.

    However, more like the Oilers have 9 or 10 new players and are currently the youngest team by far in the NHL, and the vets are showing some fire.

    I'm pleased that losing doesn't sit well.

          The Oilers are the 2nd youngest team in the NHL, not the youngest by far.

          The youngest team is doing pretty well...

            I think playing teams like LA and Edmonton back to back, and then a real team after, actually is a good argument to be made. No matter what you think of your team, Edmonton's not exactly a top NHL club and neither is LA. San Jose, meanwhile, is loaded with talent. It's easy to fall into a groove against lesser teams and then get your ass kicked by a good team -- an excuse to get your ass into gear.

                What are the stats with them out?

                I doubt they're so old (30?) to make their absence the youngest "by far".

                Besides, it's not the age that's the problem. The kids on the Oilers are "by far" their best players.

                  32, 31, and 30.

                  Take them out and sub with 22 to 24 and the average tanks fast.

                  The problem isn't the age per se. It's the experience and cohesion (which generally comes with age and time playing together).

                        It's a team game.

                        The team playing against the Flames on Saturday had 11 skaters totally new to the team or with very little NHL experience.

                        I'm counting Greene as a vet (NHL and the Oilers). He's 24 and this is his third NHL season.

                            That was the Avs announcers on that clip. Toews is every bit as good as advertised.

                            It was a big night for Toews, going up against his hero, Sakic. (I would say "childhood hero" but he's still a teenager.) He was all jazzed about winning the opening faceoff against him.

                            Then that goal... sweet.
