  • I say it every week, Guy: Anyone who dares even think about contending that the SEC is not the best conference in football is on crack.

What a spectacular finish, and even though I'm sad to see Auburn go down, I'm happy to see LSU get right back into the thick of the hunt. With the USF loss and the uninspired near chokejob by Ohio State, LSU will be right there again when the BCS standings come out tomorrow.

    1. Boston College
    2. LSU (+2)
    3. Ohio State (-1)
    4. Oklahoma (+1)
    5. West Virginia (New Entry)
    6. Virginia Tech (+1)
    7. Arizona State (+3)
    8. Oregon (New Entry)
    9. South Florida (-6)
    10. Florida (New Entry)

    Dropped: South Carolina, California, Kentucky
On the brink: Kansas, Missouri, Hawaii, Texas, USC

        • They've got a night game at Penn State next week, which is going to be very tough. Not to mention their season-ending trip to Ann Arbor. Their last four games are much tougher than their first eight.

Missouri just misses out, but I have a feeling they'll sneak in next week (I don't think ASU beats Cal, regardless of their performances the last couple weeks).

This year's OSU reminds me of the 2002 National Champs. Very solid defensively, not that impressive offensively, but do just enough to win, using ball control and field position to win games.

                • You know, I'm inclined to give Miles a pass on this one. When the guy caught the ball, there were four seconds left; the clock just kept running down. There would've been time to kick.

                    • Looking at that poll, it is not entirely inconceivable that Oklahoma may be the only top seven team not to lose next week, only because they have a bye:
                      1 OSU at 24 PSU
                      2 BC at 8 VT
                      3 LSU at 22 Alabama
                      5 Oregon vs. 9 USC
                      6 WVU at 25 Rutgers
                      7 ASU vs. 18 Cal

What a week it's gonna be!

                      Also of note:

                      9 Florida vs. 20 Georgia

I'll take OSU and WVU getting upset and the chalk everywhere else.

As far as the BCS is concerned, look at what the matchups would be if things ended today:

                            ROSE: Arizona State v. Oklahoma

                            • Yeh, very weird. Objectively, USC is a better team than BC, but wouldn't be in the BCS, f.e.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt.
