McCabe is extremely annoying, frustrating and did not performed to expectations last year making him overpaid at $6 mill a year, but making him a forward...
I expect that kind of comment from Asher (who is still living in the Harry Howell era), but not from you.
As for the contacts, Ferguson has done a terrible job and the problem isn't the blue line, it's the forward. Sundin would be a 90+ point player if he had decent line. There has been so much talent signed in the past two years, and the best Ferguson has been able to pick up any of them.
The classic idiotic contract was the one he gave to Belfour during the lockout. He follows that up with contracts to Raycroft and Toskala before they even play a game as a Leaf.
He gives away draft picks for Toskala, who I think will end up having a strong year, but even that wont justify throwing away the future.
As for the McCabe contract, yeah, he wasn't worth $6 mill last year, but at least he's playing. The contracts that are killing the Leafs are the ones where they pay money to players who aren't playing.
Ah yes, the same hockey "expert" who criticized me for picking Backstrom. That's Backstrom the goalie, the one with two shut-outs in three games,
What?? When did I criticize you for picking Backstrom?
I love Backstrom. I have him in 3 other leagues for christ sakes. You forget how many Minnie games I endure every year, he wasn't some big secret (especially with his stats from last year).

As I've said, and as I've quoted here, I consider him one of the top 5 goaltenders this season. I've drafted him in 3 other pools I'm in this year myself.
Edit: Ahhh, you're referring to me saying it was pretty risky to draft Backstrom as early as you did. That comment still stands, he's not played a full NHL season and you picked him first in the second round. I still consider that risky. That doesn't mean I don't like him as a player or he's not any good.

No, remind me. Was it something to rib you?
Ribbing is good-- This thread needs some more good natured hockey ribbing
It appears however, that about half the managers, while active in managing their teams, don't comment much here.
Oh and I actually find myself agreeing with Asher a bit on the Backstrom pick. Given that Backstrom doesn't have as long a tenure as some of the other goalies, there is a bit more risk with him. That said, he was on my list for consideration three spots later. I probably would have still taken Nabokov (since I was really looking for a high win goalie and team) but there is a part of me that was thinking Backstrom will be the superior goalie.
While its a bit early to be awarding the vezina, he has definitely been impressive early

I admit my comment was largely tongue in cheek since McCabe, despite his flaws was still an Olympian for Canada, which means some held his skills as defenseman in high regard
But it is not unusual to take players with certain skills and move them about. Forwards often play the point of the PP so their team can benefit from their skills in a situatioon where their defensive liabilities matter less. Some bigger physical defencemen are sometimes used in a forward slot, again on the PP.
McCabes skills may be somewhat ill-suited for a forward role, but when you have an offensive defenseman with defensive shortcomings, it could be something to think about. NOte I never said they should do it-- I just wondered if it had ever been considered

Oh and the Leafs exhibited their streakiness again last night in a big way. That was quite a blowout of the Islanders.
Will the Leafs make the playoffs this year? I have doubts ( given the resurgence of Carolina, added strength in Washington) but they should again make it a wild ride. If their goatending can be stellar, it would not shock me if they make it in .
Otherwise I just don't see it. Last year I believe my quote (very early in the season) was that the Leafs were just good enough to barely miss the playoffs. UNless Toskala is amazing, I see that as being the case again since I don't see how the Leafs are that much better than last season

Another reason I considered Backstrom risky was how awesome Josh Harding is. Unsurprisingly, Lemaire has said Harding will get about 35 starts this year. A pseudo-platoon, and IMO, a silly pick for essentially a 1st round pick (1st in the second round).
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "
2.1 is a second round pick, and establishes the difficulty with the 1.12/2.1 pick - you are aware that the next player you choose will be at 3.12/4.1, and therefore unless you have a player who is just right for your strategy and also just right for 2.1, you are forced to choose between "follow your strategy" (and pick a player above where he should be), and "pick the best player available". (Unless your strategy is BPA always within positional restrictions of course, but that is hardly the only legit strategy.)
Without understanding Tingkai's strategy, you shouldn't critique the pick for being too high unless you think Backstrom would be available at 3.12 (which he clearly would not have been).
The problem, Asher, is you always assume that you know everything and that nobody can have a different opinion than you. It's one thing to say you wouldn't have picked Backstrom that high (true and reasonable), it's a different, and more annoying, thing to constantly degrade others for having different opinions. Just putting IMO in front of it doesn't fix it...

You're getting on my nerves.
What don't you get?
Another reason I considered Backstrom risky
I still consider that risky.
If you don't get these are clearly opinions without broad, flashing "OPINION INCOMING" disclaimers, you need help.
If you have further misguided, berating advice please take it to PM so I can most easily ignore it. I can't stand haughty posters, especially when they clearly don't read what's been posted. This is a forum for discussion, and it's perfectly acceptable (and kind of the point) to discuss eachother's fantasy teams, their results, our predictions, etc.

I think you'd be more believable if 90% of your criticism didn't center on NYE and Tingkai.
I don't care if you find it "believable" or not. They're reasonable criticisms, and if you understood and followed hockey you'd see that. I do not appreciate you interjecting your rather personal attack into this thread, even though you think yourself clever to disguise it in a condescending, helpful advice kind of way.

Asher
why not chill a bit? Your posts often border on rude in their tone and although I generally ignore the tone and comment on the content, its a bit much for you to get all "thats a personal attack" when someone disagrees with you and comments on your posting style
I did not agree that you shouldn't "critique the pick"-- Thats half the fun-- but I do see some merit in what snoopy is saying about your manner. Personally I brush it off and respond to content. But if someone else wants to take issue with your style, I don't see why they should not do so

To be fair, i'm not feeling well today and would not normally have posted that last paragraph. Not because I don't believe it, but because that sort of comment is not possible to be received well by the poster (and Asher is not the only one this applies to; it applies to myself sometimes certainly, and many others). The difference between "my opinion is this" and "your opinion is wrong" is a very, very fine line, and which opinion you agree with often determines which side of the line you think it is on.
The constantly nagging Tingkai and NYE however is still annoying
