Word is that he has started the seaon on RIGHT wing with Sakic and Ryan Smyth-- Hopefully thats productive and gives me some lineup flexiblity if he gets designated as a right winger as well.

I was surprised he lasted this long with his 83 points. I know that was his best year and he is older but on that line with an up and coming team -- I have high hopes

      • Yes, you certainly are in a position to tell us how to win, given your regular season finish last year, was it seventh or eight spot before the "playoffs".

As or Phaneuf, his plus/minus is not significantly better. A difference of seven of the year isn't going to change much. He's averaged 50 points over the past two years. Compared to +60 average for Kaberle, so no, Phaneuf would not be a better pick.

And of course, there are a lot of other d-men who can match Phaneuf or a better, including the ones already taken.

Hey, it's not my fault that you couldn't deliver when it mattered. It's a product of your environment in Toronto.

Compared to +60 average for Kaberle, so no, Phaneuf would not be a better pick.
Such simple logic that would be spot-on if we were a league only concerned with overall points rather than category wins.

And o course, there are a lot of other d-men who can match Phaneuf or a better.
That are available still? Depends if you value consistency and multi-dimensional or not.

Kaberle's a bit one-dimensional. On a team stacked with assists (eg, Savard, Sakic), going for more assists over other stats is a bit odd.

All of the projections I've seen have ranked Phaneuf over Kaberle for d-men.

TSN has Phaneuf at #5, McCabe at #6, and Kaberle at #10.
You may be right about the assists thing, but remember that most fantasy rankings take into consideration things like PiMs, since most pools use those stats. TSN is also has Phaneuf with 14 less points and pretty close on +/- (+2 vs +8 for Phaneuf - over the course of a season, that's pretty negligible).

You were going to draft Phaneuf with your 4th pick? Yikes.

Regardless of what you write, overall points are not as important as winning as many categories as possible.

And no, I very often ignore what you write. I have a quota on how much I can take a day, my sides hurt...

Personally, I avoided him this year due to pairing uncertainty.

I also wrote Yahoo begging them to add Hits as a stat for next year. That's the best part of the TSN salary pools.

Which reminds me, Tingkai -- join our TSN Salary Cap league. I sooo wanna kick your ass there.

I don't know . . . when a guy has had two years in the league as a d-man it is often expected that they will get better. You can't just take a guys points and leave it at that. Phaneuf is the number one PP guy , a third year player and on a team with some decent firepower up front

Don't bother -- he'll reply with some schtick about how Calgary's without a real captain, how Keenan will crush all the players on the team, and how Calgary's offense is overrated.
