  • Lions fans are never freaking happy. You took the best player in the draft, who is ready to step in now. In addition you are playing a Martz style offense.

Most experts have rated the Lions as having a very good draft. And a lot of it is based on getting CJ.

    • Imran, the experts always rate the Lions as having a very good draft. Seriously, almost every year since Millen took over, the Lions have gotten A or B ratings for their drafts. Look it up.

What the hell good has it done us? We could have 3 Jerry Rices running routes out there, and it won't matter a lick because we won't have a guy who can throw to them, a line who can block for that guy, or a halfback to can take the pressure off.

Would you be happy, were you a Lions fan? Decades upon decades of this nonsense?

        • It seems the Lions fans have a more realistic view of the draft than the out of towners

I'll take the best WR coming out of school in the last 10 years (if not more). A bigger, faster Larry Fitzgerald, who is also a great blocker, to anchor a high flying, 3/4 WR offense.

And Kitna had over 4,000 yards passing last year, and will mentor Stanton to take over the job.

And did you forget about the deal for Tatum Bell? And Duckett can take some of the pressure off sometimes... as Jones gets healthy.

When you complain when your GM actually does make some very good moves, then the moniker fits.

                • Don't get me wrong, Imran. I hope you're right. Christ, I hope you're right.

But I will not hesitate to say, "I told you so," once the Lions are 4-12.

If you want Millen, you can have him.

Cause we all know how all great rookies are able to turn teams completely around in their 1st year.

Within 3 years, Marinelli and Martz will have this team, at least, in the teens part of the draft.

Drafting Merriweather, trading for Moss... I know the Pats have made malcontents into team players in the past, but I think they may be biting off more than they can chew these past couple days.
I think most up here are looking at it with reserved optimism. Like Dillon, a lot of Moss' problems disappear when he's happy and winning...something it looks like the Pats are going to do quite a bit of. Reports are that he's already been told he's on a very short leash and that he needs to get any ideas he might have about a Randy ratio out of his head right now, and that (for now) he accepts that. I haven't seen anything about his new contract yet, but I'm guessing it's going to be structured so that the Pats can cut bait whenever they want...and given that Moss apparently wants to play for them so badly that he wouldn't restructure his contract for any other team, there should be a decent incentive to stay in line.

Meriwether will definitely need a talking to, but that should happen pretty quickly in NE. The gun incident, it seems, was something that was out of his control. They were being robbed, his friend was shot, he fired back. Should he have just gotten his friend and tried to disappear? It might have been smarter, but returning fire when you're being shot at isn't exactly attacking a security guard at a strip club or breeding pit bulls for dog fights *cough*. The on-field brawl is definitely something that needs to be corrected, but he's also going to be playing with a veteran safety that has learned a bit about channeling aggression himself, so I think NE is probably the best place he could have landed.

Perhaps so, perhaps not. But I think he'll have left a good foundation. Martz is a great offensive coordinator. His head coaching, OTOH, is something to be desired.

Look at it this way, in 2004 the top 3 picks were: 1) Eli Manning, 2) Robert Gallery, 3) Larry Fitzgerald. I think the Cards got the best of it there. Even if you count Philip Rivers, the #4. Hell, from that draft there is a great argument to be made that Fitzgerald was the best player.
