  • Tingkai and nye, you would make a perfect couple for very obvious reasons.

    And yes, I mistyped Playfair's name last night. Tell you what, you go play hockey, then have a few beers and we'll see whether you make any mistakes.

    Dude, you didn't ****ing mistype it. You have very clearly watched almost zero Flames games this season. You have very clearly no ****ing idea what you are talking about. Don't try to pass this off as a "well I played hockey, so I must be right!" ****, it's a ploy that no one buys.

    You are unreal.

      So, I take you to mean that Sutter said 'to hell with it' and didn't have any say in the system his coach used.

      Unlikely?

      IOW, all this 'it's the coach' crap is just that. Crap.

      • when there is no leadership on the ice

        I'm just curious, also, how your playing hockey in Hong Kong makes you credible as literally the only person in the world who questions the leadership ability of Iginla.

          I take it as I seriously didn't read your post.

          I saw Tingkais and skimmed it, and was hilarious enough on its own.

            • And by the way, Tingkai, around a dozen people right now are laughing their asses at you in the Blogosphere -- Oil fans and Flames fans -- at your continued flogging of the Regehr horse as part of the problem in this Detroit series.

              Regehr is a 2nd pairing d-man on a team with an incredible amount of defensive depth. I've not known a single person other than you -- a Maple Leafs fan of McCabe living in Hong Kong who doesn't watch Flames games - to point to Regehr (or lack of) as a fundamental problem with the team.

              It's an incredibly shallow, incredibly ignorant comment one might make though...if they don't follow the team and if they have no concept of pro hockey. It is very clear that this was the case.

              By the way, if the Wings are "far superior" to the Flames, why did Calgary dispatch them in 6 back in 04 when they had $25M more in salary and Stevie Y? Why did Calgary split the season series with them this year also? Another Tingkai assertion to sit on...

              Then again, back in 03-04 you were telling me how bad a goaltender "Kippersoft" was that would fold under the playoff pressure. You're so right. Even this year he's been just awful!

              .928 svp vs Brodeur's unworldly .870. Then again, Kiprusoff has been blessed with playing behind a defense-first team playing great hockey, unlike Brodeur...right? You're such a hockey prophet. Please don't ever change.

                The Flames were terrible on the road all yearand pretty garbage down the stretch - and Regehr played all year. "Blueline gap"??
                Why are you posting this idiot's comments? If he wants to join the discussion, then let him.

                He's either isn't reading all my comments, or he is another fool from Alberta.

                For instance, I mentioned that during most of the year, the Flames were not able to find a d-man to partner with Regehr like Leopold did. That's one of the reasons why the Flames have struggled defensively this year.

                Regehr has nothing to do with the lack of play from the forwards. The forwards are screwing up on their own.

                The coach is not the primary leader of a team. The primary leader is the team captain or another player, not the coach.

                The coach's job is to develop the overall strategy, organize training and meld all the egos into a team. But when it comes to implementing the strategy, the leadership is on the ice. If there is no strategy, then the players have to step up.

                The first rule of leadership is lead by example. Where are the leaders on the Flames?

                As for the Wings, Dasyuk has stepped up his game this year. He's scoring goals in the post-season. He is leading the team. What has Iginla done?

                Then there is Lidstrom, the veteran who still outperforms the kids. Warrener is no Lidstrom.

                And Tanguay, yeah he has 51 points, but take out the Cup year, seven year ago, and he's got 30 points in 60 games. Not impressive.

                The reason why the Flames are losing:
                1) Detroit has more talent;
                2) The Flames forwards are playing like slugs;
                3) There's no leadership on the ice;
                4) The Flames d-men are not doing their job;
                5) The absence of Regehr has left a massive hole; and
                6) Playfair hasn't adjusted his game plan.

                  A Civilization site is a less proper site than a hockey community blog...

                  Only you and the CBC national broadcasters said that. Leopold struggled last year actually, and was the weakest link of that deal. I'm sure you recall this vividly in all zero games you've watched. Have you seen Leopold's numbers?

                  And Tanguay, yeah he has 51 points, but take out the Cup year
                  Seriously, how hard do you try here? How pathetic is this?

                  Take out the best seasons and see how he's done? Ignore the fact that he scored a goal that earned him a stanley cup ring? You're amazing.

                  Why don't you come enter the hockey community with your insight. You're going to get soundly bashed. I'm going easy on you, you should see the IMs I get from people by posting your responses.

                  By the way, please say -- so I can quote you -- your opinion that you've said in lots of words above: Playfair's strategy is not the main reason that the Flames are doing poorly in Detroit.

                  Then, I want you to discuss Playfair's strategy in detail for me. It should be clear, right, you've watched 84 Flames games this season like the people you're arguing against. Until you do it, you've lost...

                    Earth to Asher, Earth to Asher: The teams in 04 are not the teams playing today.

                    If you think the Flames are the superior team now because they won a series three years ago, you really don't understand anything.

                    You're spending too much time in front of a computer. Go out and play some hockey ( if you know how). The fresh air will clear the cobwebs from your mind.

                      Care to explain to the world why your logic applies now instead of 04?

                      What significant differences are there from the team in 04 and now? I am simply applying your logic now to the same situation in 04 which put the Red Wings overwhelmingly the favourite. I'm showing you whyit's half-baked, but you do not seem to comprehend.

                      That was not the argument, and if you deduced that from what was said I can see why you chose the field of journalism and not something requiring critical thought.

                      The repeated concussions you've clearly sustained are serving you well in becoming fodder for people who actually understand the game.

                      Go on, lecture us about Playfield's strategy. It certainly doesn't involve letting Kippersoft be in net, he's an awful goalie! They should've traded for Raycroft. And gave up Phaneuf for McCabe...

                      And Raycroft was an average goalie this year, despite ranking 35th in the league in sv%.

                      Tell us, hockey messiah...we await your wisdom from overseas.

                        It's starting to sound like '67. Without the Cup.

                            • Asher: You call yourself a Flames fan, but you don't know that Yelle is a checking forward. You don't even know what a checking forward does. You think that Flames are the same without Regehr. The team is losing and you only blame the coach, but not the players.

                              Yup, you're a real authority on hockey.

                              And NYE: nice shot. He shoots, he scores.

                              • And since we're quoting other people here's what someone wrote about Regehr:

                                First, in terms of the Flames' inconsistency on defence, I think what they belatedly learned was how much they missed Jordan Leopold, the price they paid to Colorado in order to acquire Alex Tanguay at last year's entry draft. Leopold, a former Hobey Baker award winner in U.S. college hockey, was the perfect complement to hard-hitting Robyn Regehr - not as offensively gifted as his credentials anticipated, but way better defensively than most of us thought he could be.

                                Last year, they were shutdown pair for Calgary, logging all the hard minutes against the opposition's top line, freeing up Roman Hamrlik and Dion Phaneuf to play against No. 2s, 3s, and 4s.

                                This year, the Flames spent most of 60 games trying to find a new partner for Regehr. Phaneuf couldn't handle it. Rhett Warrener was better, but he was hurt too much. During that six-game winning streak at the end of the season, Regehr and Brad Stuart looked as if they were developing some chemistry on the blue line - finally. Then Regehr got hurt against San Jose.

                                A healthy Regehr is the key to beating Detroit - or it was a couple of years ago, when he physically intimidated some of the Red Wings' top-end talent. Regehr at 80 per cent or 60 per cent or in the press box on opening night greatly enhances Detroit's chances.

                                No doubt, Asher will call this guy a moron.
