  • N F L Football coaching changes 2007

More heads are a rolling, Mora gone in Atlanta (No surprise), Shell gone in Oakland (Great Player, hasn't shown me much in coaching venue), Cowher removing himself in Pittsburg, unsure as he stated he wasn't burned out, if he will pop up somewhere else. Dennis Green gone in Arizona, another not so impressive coach in my opinion.

Do you think a merry go round takes place with some of these or are they legitimate leaders and promoters or more so a self promoter?

I love Joe Gibbs but to me, even though he has certainly earned it, he needs to be coaching like Rocky Balboa needs another "fight".

Pete Carroll had his name somehow mentioned to be a possibility at Arizona. Pete Carroll, I know we are to forgive and forget, just the memory of him doing the choking motion on the sideline when he coached the New York Jets when I believe a Buffalo Bill kicker missed a kick..shame thats what I remember him for, oh and yes he was a meltdown of an NFL Coach.

Just wondering how other N F L Fans feel about the Coaching Carousel?

He's still got two years left on his contract. He can turn things around.

It's an annual event, kinda fun to watch.

After Cowher and Shell become official today, we might be done. The only other coach who might get axed is Tom Coughlin with the Giants.

Pete Carroll would be a fool to leave his gig. Hell, with no NFL team there, he's now the big dog in the LA football market, not to mention the whole NCAA.

Poor Art Shell... it wasn't his fault that the Raiders had Aaron Brooks as the starter and then when he went down, they had to make due with Andrew Walter. I don't think anyone could have done much better.

As for coaching changes... I hear that either OL coach Russ Grimm or OC Ken Wisenhunt is on top of the list for the Steelers, with Grimm as top choice. If Grimm gets that job, expect Wisenhunt to take the Falcons opening.

Ron Rivera is interviewing with the Falcons today.
          He interviewed with Arizona Wednesday.

He seems to be on everyone's interview list. Don't know if that's more because he's a minority, or because he's a hot commodity.

It would be a blow if he left, but at the core of things, it's really Lovie's defense. So presumably he could be replaced.

I think its a bit of both. He's the coordinator running the Bears D and he's a minority. Interviewing him is a win-win (he could be head coach material for your team and if he's not, well, he's a minority, so you don't get in trouble).

Hunt for new Dolphins coach expands
              BY ARMANDO SALGUERO
              asalguero@MiamiHerald.com

The Miami Dolphins today are interviewing former Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora. Mora, fired last week after three seasons in Atlanta, will be the first of several interviews the Dolphins have set for the coming days.

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is also on the team's list of candidates. Whisenhunt, who is also a candidate to replace Bill Cowher as Pittsburgh's new coach and who interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons Thursday and is scheduled to interview with Arizona today, might be hired by one of those teams by early next week.

Other names being added to the drama include former Dolphins offensive coordinator and current Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey, whom the Dolphins contacted Thursday. Gailey, who also coached the Dallas Cowboys, is a friend and believed to be a favorite of Dolphins president Bryan Wiedmeier.

Georgia Tech athletic director Dan Radakovich confirmed Friday that the Dolphins had requested and received permission to interview Gailey.

It is believed the Dolphins are conducting both the Mora and Gailey interviews in Atlanta.

The Dolphins will interview Chicago defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and San Diego offensive coordinator Cam Cameron before the weekend is over -- flying to both Chicago and San Diego for the meetings.

              Mora?!?!

Man, that'd be funny if the Fins hired Mora.

                  I wouldn't think so.

And Chan Gailey doesn't impress me that much either.

Perhaps, but if I'm Cowher, I'd rather go back to the Steelers than coach NC State next season.

Expectations are comparatively low at NC State. He's got a house there. He's an alum. Sounds like a good change of pace from the NFL...

I thought Cowher was going to take a year off.

I wouldn't mind seeing him go to the Dolphins (even though they'd have to give up something).
