Anderlecht is in desperate need of a new (and larger) Stadium though, with a capacity of up to 40,000. Club Brugge is feeling similarly constrained by its current stadium.

Yeh. In some ways it's a big contrast because the sport is healthy and stable in Belgium. The MLS is quickly moving to smaller stadiums to match the crowds coming out. Often, beautiful, enormous, new stadiums in the same cities are being left unused by soccer.

Hmmm "healthy " probably wouldn't have been an apt description in previous years, particularly amongst smaller teams. Maybe it's reasonable healthy now though, now that the financially weaker teams have been weeded out or been forced to clean up their act. I put the total MLS budget for next year at roughly $65 million. 13 teams. €15-25 would be mid-range I think, but it can go lower or higher depending on the team, the game, the kind of location etc

Toronto FC's stadium is a public/private split. The public part is funded by the Canadian national gov't and the stadium will be the national soccer stadium for Canada. Capacity 20,000.
Red Bull New York's is privately funded by Red Bull and Anschutz Entertainment Group, except that some of the bonds are subsidized redevelopment bonds and there are some other incentives. Capacity 25,000.
Often, even if the stadium is privately funded, the local gov'ts will pay for infrastructure upgrades.
There are several other stadiums on the drawing board, so a lot of money is soft-committed. The owner of Salt Lake City wants a new stadium publicly funded. The owner of D.C. Yes, to the tune of £10m.
That's a lot of cash to spend on strikers in the past two seasons (although coming from a Newcastle fan, this is decidedly ironic, especially since we bought a left-winger and expected him to play up front. Not every left-winger is a Henry in the waiting...

Huntelaar is hot right now (and that's a severe understatement) but it's a bit early to tell how well he'll do in the long run. It's inevitable he'll suffer an injury or lose form at some point, it'll be important to see how he recovers from that kind of setback. Kuijt was two years ago where Huntelaar is now. His development leveled off a bit in my view, but he's still a brilliant player with IMO the potential of becoming England's next Van Nistelrooij.Comment
