What is this horse****? Why not lean on your new friend to stop the invasion. Simple.

Putin isn't actually Trump's friend, which makes Trump's loyalty to Putin kind of sad.

To be less hypothetical, because you sometimes have problems with complex thought:
Russia can, at any time, retreat back to Russian territory, withdraw all their forces from Ukraine, and there will be peace. That they don't do this means they don't want peace, they want Ukraine to surrender.
Not wanting to surrender does not mean you don't want peace.
Did the UK & France have a self-defense treaty? Your advice for Russia would be a betrayal, they've committed to helping free the Donbas from Azov. Leaving would subject the population to continued ethnic cleansing. That reminds me, how are our head choppers doing in Syria?

If the goal is expelling Russia from the Donbas (and Crimea) what will happen to the people in those regions? Ukraine isn't surrendering, they're giving up their invalid claim to govern people who already made it clear they don't want to be ruled by Nazis.

Maybe Trump would do it all for the sake of the kompromat?

If there's kompromat, it's almost certain election assistance, and that is a pretty damned big debt to repay. Russian media is literally chortling at Trump's willingness to do their dirty work, and not at all hiding the fact that it's a debt settlement.

He was trying to make peace from 2014-22 and keep the Donbas within Ukraine

2014 is when his puppet was thrown out, to which Putin responded by annexing Crimea.
Really nice job of "trying to make peace"!!

The best way to do that is to smuggle large columns of military hardware into the hands of separatists led by senior KGB agents?

I would say, from the outside, you are at least at last resort and I have a horrible suspicion it may be too There is no precedent for this, you're in a constitutional no mans land. Impeachment, admonishment, all these things are fuel to Trump, he just points at the bureaucracy and laughs. Stern words may come out and he may be dismissed but he won't budge. Then force is ordered to remove him and his cronies but there will be those who resist, including branches of your military, as he is the elected President of the United States. And that's the flashpoint.

All I can say if a coup d'état is performed to oust him that he and his senior team are captured quickly without reprisal, they need to be summarily executed. Without this, there is no hope.

The US needs a Ceaușescu moment. I think they have until August, then it will be too late.
